Job Summary
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
- Some experience in a human services setting.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Must obtain a food handlers certificate within 45 days of hire (Hylan Shelter only).
- Valid NYS Drivers License preferred.
Work Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

About the Role
The Unit Counselor supports residents by providing care support socialization crisis intervention and facility monitoring across shelter programs.
Primary Responsibilities
Participate in or conduct orientation for new residents.
Communicate program processes and activities to residents.
Provide social support and motivational interviewing interventions.
Provide transportation for residents to appointments as needed.
Assist with meal-related activities including warming serving and cleanup.
Document neighborhood activities and resident interactions.
Participate in crisis intervention as needed.
Attend management supervision and required training meetings.
Report serious incidents and complete required incident documentation.
Conduct hourly rounds and ensure resident wellbeing.
Arrive to work on time and as scheduled.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
