Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Designer / Engineer with strong AutoCAD and/or Revit expertise to lead the design and documentation of security and low-voltage building systems. This role will be responsible for developing construction-ready drawings coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and ensuring designs meet industry standards and client requirements.
The ideal candidate will bring strong real-world system knowledge and the ability to independently execute designs while providing technical leadership and mentoring to junior staff.
RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) certification is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
System Design
- Lead the design and layout of low-voltage systems including:
- Structured cabling (copper and fiber)
- Telecommunications rooms and pathways
- Physical security systems (access control video surveillance intrusion)
- Develop construction-ready documents including plans details risers diagrams schedules and specifications using AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Coordinate designs with architectural structural mechanical and electrical teams.
- Ensure compliance with BICSI TIA ANSI NFPA and other industry standards.
Project Coordination
- Review and redline drawings to ensure quality constructability and coordination.
- Support project managers with technical input scope definition and design narratives.
- Participate in design meetings client reviews and project coordination sessions.
- Assist with RFIs submittals and construction administration when required.
Technical Leadership
- Serve as a technical resource and mentor to junior designers and engineers.
- Maintain and improve internal drafting and BIM standards.
- Provide technical guidance on low-voltage system design and project execution.
CAD / Revit Library Management Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain standardized CAD blocks and Revit family libraries for telecom security and low-voltage systems.
- Create and update content including:
- Telecom outlets racks cabinets and pathways
- Security devices (cameras readers panels door hardware)
- Low-voltage symbols diagrams and details
- Maintain consistent naming conventions layers parameters and BIM standards.
- Review and approve new blocks and families before release to production teams.
- Ensure libraries support construction-ready documentation including schedules tags and annotations.
- Troubleshoot CAD/BIM library performance and compatibility issues.
- Train designers on proper use of CAD/Revit libraries.
- Enforce version control and standardization across projects.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to BIM workflows and automation.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit for low-voltage system design.
- Strong knowledge of telecommunications and security system design principles.
- Proven ability to develop permit-ready and construction-ready drawings.
- Experience coordinating with multiple design disciplines on complex projects.
- Strong attention to detail documentation quality and technical accuracy.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) certification.
- PSP (Physical Security Professional) certification.
- Experience with large or complex facilities such as commercial healthcare higher education or mission-critical environments.
- Experience with BIM coordination workflows.
- Previous experience in a consulting or A/E environment.
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Engineering Technology or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Typically 57 years of experience in low-voltage or technology system design.
