Job Description Summary
The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for leading key design initiatives across the electric power industry with a focus on execution of programs including new product introduction (NPI) reliability & maintainability (RAM) product cost out initiatives (PCO) and customized requisitions. The candidate will demonstrate a clear understanding of the company goals in the field of product/systems design and compliance. The position will also include driving quality in electrical design developing technical requirements providing technical direction for Aeroderivative Gas Turbine products.
Job Description
Essential Functions:
- Lead the electrical systems design enhancements and/or solutions for the Aeroderivative Gas Turbine Package for multiple Product Lines in a power plant application.
- Design electrical layouts sizing/specification(s) for LV/MV equipment in 3D model space including sizing of Generator Circuit Breaker (GCB) Generator Lineside/Neutral Auxiliary Cubicles (GLAC/GNAC) bus bars and interfaces establishing SC (short-circuit) current ratings.
- Knowledgeable in MV/LV Equipment design sizing and interfaces including GSU step-up/down transformers and motor control equipment utilized on a power plant level.
- Be able to read interpret Single Line Diagrams and develop wiring loop instrumentation and schematic diagrams and apply to electrical design principles conduct RCAs and FMEAs.
- Lead design reviews for reliability performance and safety and compliance type programs for overall plant including equipment level detail reviews such as GCB GSUT LV/MV SWGR AC/DC and Generator systems.
- Familiar with developing/adapting electrical designs to ensure compliance with latest Electrical codes and standards (NEC IEEE IEC CSA) supporting electrical safety and hazardous area standards with applicable EU directives (LVD EMC ATEX MD).
- Capable of selecting and evaluating synchronous Generators for Aeroderivative product packages and familiar with all the respective Generator system components.
- Familiar with AC and DC Systems design (E&I) sizing and interfacing for gas turbine systems including Generator breaker synchronization schemes protection philosophy excitation systems Vibration systems Turbine Controls and Fire Protection Systems able to coordinate solutions with other power plant teams.
- Develop design schedule for projects/programs with milestones and work task assignments with cross functional teams.
- Lead extended team of GEV and/or contingent workers to ensure that all program/project deliverables are completed successfully with quality and timeliness.
- Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned programs/projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
- Prepare invention disclosures to protect the technology that provides a competitive advantage to the business.
- Provide support and present technical data to internal stakeholders and external customers.
- Document and communicate results of technical data generated.
- Collaborate with key functional teams Production and Global Supply Chain to execute on projects/programs; additionally supporting and driving solutions with Product Services Project Fulfillment Performance Applications and Controls within engineering.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in electrical engineering (ABET or equivalent accredited program) from an accredited college or university OR equivalent knowledge / work experience in the E&I system design & power distribution systems.
- Experience in electrical systems design for gas turbine generator products.
Desired Characteristics:
- Masters degree in electrical engineering (ABET or equivalent accredited program) from an accredited college or university.
- Highly experienced in electrical systems design and integration of equipment for the power generation industry.
- Sound knowledge of electrical codes and standards including understanding of EU directives and safety standards related to design practices for hazardous areas.
- Proficient in 2D AutoCAD 3D Modeling/Viewing NX ePLAN or equivalent AVEVA Electrical enterprise systems.
