SPECIAL EDUCATION VTS INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS DESIGNER

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a skilled Instructional Materials Designer to develop innovative evidence-based educational resources for special education teachers working with students who have complex communication needs. This role focuses on creating materials that enhance language and communication skills through research-based methodologies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design anddevelop instructional materials tools and resources specifically for students with complex communication needs

  • Research and integrate current evidence-based practices in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) language development and special education

  • Collaborate with team members to identify material needs and effectiveness

  • Create adaptable resources that can be customized for various communication levels and learning styles

  • Develop implementation guides and training materials for special education teachers and speech-language pathologist

  • Evaluateand revise materials based on feedback

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION

  • Mastersdegree in Special Education with a focus on Severe Disabilities

  • Minimum 1 years experience working with students with complex communication needs

  • Evidence of successfully completing at a minimum one university level AAC course

  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based practices in language development and AAC

  • Experience in instruction design and material development

  • Proficiency in Boardmaker SymbolStix and Microsoft products

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification in special education or speech-language pathology

  • Experience with assistive technology and communication devices

  • Knowledge of universal design for learning UDL principles

SKILL & COMPETENCIES

  • Strong understanding of diverse learning needs and communication challenges

  • Ability to translate research into practical user-friendly materials
