Summary
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) the Missouri Learning Standards and the Oak Ridge R-VI Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP). The Teacher develops and implements specialized instructional strategies monitors student progress ensures compliance with IDEA and state regulations and collaborates with colleagues parents and administrators to promote student success in inclusive and self-contained settings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The individual who holds this position has the responsibility to:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that address each students academic behavioral and social-emotional needs.
- Provide specialized instruction that supports student mastery of IEP goals and Missouri Learning Standards.
- Adapt curriculum instructional strategies and materials to meet diverse learning needs.
- Use formative and summative assessments to measure progress toward IEP goals; maintain accurate documentation of student progress and compliance records.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion co-teaching and accommodations.
- Participate in IEP meetings multidisciplinary team meetings and parent conferences.
- Maintain effective classroom management using proactive strategies and behavior intervention plans when necessary.
- Supervise and provide direction to paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress supports and strategies.
- Collaborate with related service providers (speech OT PT counselors etc.) to coordinate services.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state special education regulations including IDEA and Section 504.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and maintain current knowledge of best practices in special education.
- Supervise students during assigned non-instructional times (recess lunch assemblies etc.).
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
Supervisory Duties
- The Special Education Teacher has supervisory responsibility over students and paraprofessionals assigned to their classroom or other supervisory duties assigned by administration.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelors Degree in Education required; Masters Degree preferred.
Certificates Licenses Registrations
- Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate in the appropriate subject/grade level.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of special education law compliance requirements and instructional practices.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to plan organize and deliver engaging specialized instruction.
- Skills in behavior management differentiation and student motivation.
- Ability to integrate technology and assistive devices effectively into instruction.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with peers administrators parents and service providers.

Is regularly required to stand walk sit hear speak and see at close moderate and distance ranges.

Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.

The individual who occupies this position will regularly work in a typical classroom environment. Rarely the individual may be required to supervise students outdoors in temperatures above 100 degrees or below freezing.
