Founding Principal of White Hill Middle School:

Job Title: Middle School Principal

Job Summary: York School District One is seeking a dynamic and experienced educational leader to serve as founding principal of White Hill Middle School a brand-new middle school scheduled to open in July 2027. This is a unique opportunity to lead the development and opening of a new school that will serve students families and the community for generations to come. This role requires a visionary individual who will lead initiatives to create an inclusive innovative and student-centered learning environment. The principal will lead the planning development and implementation of all instructional operational and cultural systems necessary for a successful school opening. The founding principal will recruit and develop staff establish school structures and expectations collaborate with district leadership and feeder schools and create a positive engaging learning environment focused on student success. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Founding Leadership:
  • Establish the vision mission and culture of White Hill Middle School aligned with district goals creating a student-centered environment that prioritizes holistic development and builds a culture of excellence for all.
  • Develop the structures systems and expectations that will guide the new school.
  • Lead strategic planning and continuous improvement aligned with district goals.
  1. School Opening Operational Planning and Resource Management
    • Collaborate with district leaders on operational readiness for the new facility.
    • Participate in planning related to building functionality safety technology and school operations.
    • Assist with decisions related to furniture equipment instructional materials and learning spaces.
    • Oversee budgeting and resource allocations to ensure that funding is strategically aligned with the district and schools goals.
    • Manage operational processes such as scheduling facilities upkeep and student behavior and services to support a conducive learning environment which is free from disruption.
    • Ensure compliance with district policies state regulations and safety protocols maintaining high standards for student and staff welfare.
  1. Staffing and Organizational Development
    • Recruit hire and develop a high-quality founding staff.
    • Develop a master schedule and team structures for the school.
    • Foster a collaborative culture focused on professional growth and student achievement where faculty are encouraged to innovate reflect and continuously improve their practice with a focus on results.
    • Implement a robust professional development plan that equips faculty with skills to support a growth-oriented school culture and builds professional capacity of all staff members.
  1. Academic Program Development and Instructional Leadership
    • Lead the implementation of rigorous engaging instruction aligned with state standards.
    • Utilize data-driven decision-making to guide instructional decisions and improve student outcomes.
    • Partner with instructional staff to introduce and support effective teaching methods integrate technology and ensure that all students have the resources to succeed.
    • Support innovative teaching practices and effective instructional strategies.
  1. Transition and Collaboration
    • Work collaboratively with district leaders and feeder schools to support the transition of students and staff to the new school.
    • Support the successful transition of students and staff from multiple schools into a unified learning community.

  2. Family and Community Engagement
    • Build strong relationships with students families community members and local organizations prior to the opening of the school to garner support and create partnerships that will foster a sense of community and school pride.
    • Engage families in the schools opening process by facilitating open communication providing regular updates and inviting participation to various events.
    • Organize community events and opportunities that reinforce the schools mission promote transparency and strengthen community trust.

    Qualifications Required:

    • Education: Masters degree in Educational Leadership
    • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in school leadership roles including middle school principal experience
    • Certification: South Carolina certification as a School Administrator/Principal.
    • Skills: Strategic planning instructional leadership data analysis communication collaborative problem-solving and proficiency in educational technology.

    Working Conditions:

    The Middle School Principal will work in a school environment with some flexibility required for after-hours events school board meetings and community functions. This is a role for a proactive leader ready to make a measurable impact and champion a new schools journey.

    Terms of Employments: 240 days; salary and work year to be established by the Board

    Evaluation:

    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on Evaluation of Support Service Personnel.
