The Assistant Director coordinates K-12 initiatives in the Office of Civic & Community Engagement and coordinates the Wake Forest University Freedom School in support of the Executive Director of WFU Freedom School.Job Description

Essential Functions:
Wake Forest University Freedom School
Implement marketing to recruit primary and secondary school youth for the summer program.
Develop and maintain relationships with community partners.
Manage institutional and grant budgets for the Freedom School Program.
Manage all administrative functions in Workday related to Freedom School.
Coordinate logistics for the summer program including catering arrangements transportation for scholars and enrichment events/programs.
Coordinate the arrangements for all related National CDF meetings and trainings at Alex Haley Farm for self site coordinators and servant leader interns.
Maintain regular contact with the Childrens Defense Fund in Washington DC and complete any required reports in a timely manner.
Design develop and implement assessment and evaluation plans that measure scholar learning outcomes intern outcomes as well as program effectiveness in partnership with the CDF office.
Communicate with program donors.
Recruit Hire Train and Supervise Freedom Schools summer staff (e.g. student servant leader interns) ensuring the implementation of the Childrens Defense Fund program.
Design develop and implement local training for Servant Leader Interns which emphasizes the Childrens Defense Funds yearly themes. Develop daily in-service and debriefing sessions for servant leader interns while the summer program is in session.
Coordinate with Wake Forest University partners including Dining Services University Events Parking and Transportation University Police Facilities and other support units to ensure a smooth program delivery.
Develop and elevate marketing and communication pieces about WFU Freedom School to share the impact of the program with key stakeholders.
Coordination of K-12 Initiatives
Continue to support educational initiatives for scholars involved in WFU Freedom School.
Manage the Virtual Tutoring Program in the Office of Civic & Community Engagement. Market the program recruit and train WFU student tutors match tutors to children in the WSFC school system and ensure smooth delivery of the program. Implement assessment and evaluation tools to assess student learning and satisfaction.
Manage the Kids Cooking Coalition program in the Office of Civic & Community Engagement. Recruit and train WFU student leaders monitor food safety and risk and advise the student leadership team.
Advise student groups interested in mentoring and tutoring in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School system.
Plan and execute programs to recognize tutors and mentors celebrate families and children and connect with community partners.
Other duties as assigned.

Serve on committees and working groups in the Division of Campus Life Office of Civic & Community Engagement and across the institution.
Participate in professional development and teambuilding activities.
Required Education Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Masters degree in education higher education social work or related field.
At least 1-2 years of professional experience in a nonprofit K-12 education or higher education setting.
Understanding of student development theory and practice.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Superior project management skills including the ability to design coordinate and implement a complex program involving multiple stakeholders.
Data collection and analysis.
Preferred Education Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to recruit train and manage volunteers.
Demonstrated experience working with children in an educational setting.
Familiarity with the Childrens Defense Fund Freedom School program.
Grant management.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to perform routine office and event-based activities including prolonged periods of sitting standing and computer use. The Assistant Director must be able to move between campus and community partner sites lift and transport program materials up to 25 pounds and support events that may occur during evenings or weekends. Ability to travel locally within Winston-Salem and Forsyth County is required.
