What is the role
Lead the advancement of next-generation vibrating core technologies combining early-stage product innovation with targeted materials exploration and enabling process development. This role will progress new material options and technology concepts through feasibility within Aerogens stage-gated framework translating promising platforms into scalable high-performance medical device solutions.
What are the key responsibilities
Materials and Process Development
Lead a team in the characterisation design and optimisation of vibrating core technologies with a particular emphasis on alternative materials advanced coatings and manufacturing processes.
Develop and validate new material formulations joining methods and fabrication processes to enhance device performance reliability and scalability.
Introduce and qualify new equipment materials and technologies that improve product capability and process efficiency.
Product and Technology Development
Contribute to project proposals development plans design inputs and verification test strategies across all stages of product development.
Manage the transition of new materials and processes from concept through to pilot production and commercialisation.
Lead technical de-risking of single-sourced critical materials and processes including second-source qualification and supply continuity strategies.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders in R&D Manufacturing Quality and Operations to ensure robust design transfer and manufacturability.
Support the development of intellectual property related to materials and process innovations.
Technical and Regulatory Excellence
Maintain awareness of international standards materials science advancements and medical device regulations.
Participate in supplier selection and qualification for materials tooling and manufacturing processes.
Leadership and Team Management
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and scientists working on materials and process initiatives.
Foster a culture of innovation collaboration and continuous improvement within the team.
Conduct regular project reviews to identify risks drive corrective actions and capture lessons learned.
Deliver project updates ensuring alignment with schedules budgets and strategic objectives.
What education and experience are required
Minimum of 10 years experience in medical device process and/or product development.
Materials characterisation experience.
A third-level degree in Materials Chemistry Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline; a Ph.D. is preferred.
What key skills will make you great at the role
Strong technical leadership and project management experience.
Expertise in design verification process validation and regulatory compliance (ISO 13485 FDA CFR 820).
Proficiency in MS Office and engineering tools such as DOE SPC and Minitab.
Excellent communication presentation and documentation skills.
Strong planning coordination and problem-solving abilities.
Experience leading and motivating cross-functional teams.
Analytical mindset with the ability to manage risk effectively.
Deep understanding of biocompatible metals polymers and medical device materials.
Hands-on experience in medical device development from concept to commercialisation.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a strong attention to quality and detail.
Willingness to travel as required for company business.
