The Principal is the educational leader of the School. The Principal is responsible for the management and administration of the overall educational program which includes the supervision and evaluation of staff the implementation of all school committee policies and the development of administrative systems and procedures which maximize the effectiveness of the school program. The Principal is the co-chairperson of the School Council and executes duties and responsibilities in accordance with the terms and conditions outlined in the Educational Reform Act of 1993 including the hiring of staff formulation and participation of the SAC and determining the rehiring of non-professional staff. The Principal is ultimately responsible for all matters regarding student discipline including suspensions dismissal and/or Year: 220 DaysTwo Year TermESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise the daily activities of the instructional and the support staff. Hire new professional and support staff in accordance with School Committee policy and with the approval of the Superintendent of Schools. Initiate design and implement programs which meet the needs of the school in concert with the Superintendent the School Committee and the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Staff Development. Serve as the co-chairperson for the School Council. Administer the supervision and evaluation plan for all staff members. Coordinate the development and the implementation of the School Improvement Plan. Contribute to the evaluation of the curriculum offerings in cooperation with the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Staff Development. Prepare and administer the budget for the school in conjunction with the school committee and the Director of Administration and Finance. Serve as an advisor to the Parent Advisory Council. Develop and implement a code of conduct which ensures a safe and supportive school climate. Establish and maintain ongoing communications with parents and the community about the school through newsletters media presentations or press releases. Establish a school schedule and assign students to appropriate learning environment based on district policies and procedures. Administer the implementation of the educational plans for the special needs children in accordance with the Chapter 766 regulations and supervise the special education staff in the school. Assume responsibility for monitoring the establishment of professional development plans of all faculty members in accordance with the local and state-wide professional development plan. Develop an effective transition and orientation program for students entering the school. Serve as a member of certain subject area study committees the administrative council and other district level committees as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools. Conduct monthly faculty meetings. Review the faculty plan books. Complete other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
