What Youll Be Doing
The Executive Director Economics is responsible for undertaking economic analysis and forecasts with a focus on their implications for financial markets and delivering our findings to external and internal clients in written reports presentations conference speeches and media appearances. Reporting to the Chief Economist this position works closely with other members of CIBCs award-winning economic team as well as with those in allied research groups including equity research and our fixed income and foreign exchange strategists. Clients for our economics research and forecasts include portfolio managers corporate executives government finance ministers and CIBCs senior management.

The expected annualized base salary range for this role is $175000.00. In addition to base pay compensation for this roleincludes participation in an annual discretionary incentive orbonus program which can represent a significant share of total compensation for candidates who demonstrate strong performance in the role.
The base salary is determined by a variety of factors including the candidates skills experience and job-related knowledge as well as geographic location and specific business needs. Our compensation philosophy supports ongoing growth and development enabling progression within the total compensation range as team members advance in their roles.
How Youll Succeed
- Presentation Deliver presentations on economic issues to external audiences including institutional clients and participants at CIBC conferences. Present to CIBC executives and officers on the economic outlook and its implications for capital markets such as interest rates exchange rates equity markets and credit conditions.
- Monitor and Deliver Monitor analyze and prepare forecasts for the Canadian U.S. and global economies as well as federal and provincial fiscal outlooks and capital markets. Oversee thematic research and develop tactical trade ideas for institutional clients and CIBCs sales and trading teams. Manage the release of CIBC Economics research in collaboration with Communications and Public Affairs. Prepare and deliver speeches and presentations for associations trade groups and client organizations - such as the Toronto Real Estate Forum and the Society of Financial Analysts - typically at the request of a CIBC account representative.
- Collaboration Contribute to and manage the writing of key economics research publications such as Economic Insights Forecast Provincial Budget Briefs The Week Ahead and In Focus. Support other CIBC publications including those from equity research fixed income strategy and retail banking. Liaise with teams across CIBC such as Corporate Communications to enhance the Banks public relations efforts. Assist in briefing senior executives for presentations and external meetings in partnership with Government Relations.
Who You Are

Youre comfortable delivering both formal and impromptu presentations and you excel in leading in-depth discussions and complex debates to support accurate forecasting. Your strong written communication skills include the ability to edit technical material which is essential for producing clear and effective reports.
- You have a solid understanding of CIBC and the banking sector. Youre able to interpret economic and political developments assessing their potential impact on the Bank. You also consider the sensitivity of various issues and communications ensuring CIBCs public image is protected when participating in press interviews or reviewing written publications.
