Your role and responsibilities

As a Stock Unit Administrator youll be at the heart of the library service delivering specialised support services to frontline and central team colleagues.

On a typical day you might:

  • Deliver excellent customer service to frontline staff across Suffolks library service.
  • Receive check process and distribute new library stock.
  • Respond to cataloguing queries from frontline library staff and create catalogue entries for new stock.
  • Create categorise and distribute collections for projects and library refurbs.
  • Check and pay invoices relating to library stock.
  • Liaise with suppliers and deal with any issues such as returns and credits due to damaged stock.
  • Liaise with other library service providers across the UK and support a comprehensive inter-library lending service to customers.
  • Coordinate the provision of Teachers Library Cards to schools.
  • Use spreadsheets to monitor spending and record receipt of customer requests and spoken word CDs.
  • Receive and deal with daily deliveries of withdrawn stock from libraries.

This is a physically active role that involves a significant amount of bending and lifting due to the volume of stock received at the Stock Unit.

You will need

Were looking for someone who:

  • Can support frontline and central team colleagues effectively and efficiently.
  • Communicates effectively and builds positive supportive relationships with suppliers colleagues and the wider community.
  • Can work accurately and quickly working to a high standard.
  • Is IT literate and comfortable using the internet spreadsheets email and other platforms relevant to the library service.
  • Works well as part of a team and is happy to support colleagues.
  • Is willing to learn and carry out the full range of Stock Unit procedures which includes a significant amount of physical work in addition to a range of activities on Spydus our library management system.

If you have some experience of working in a library and knowledge of stock management systems wed love to hear from you. However full training will be given to the successful candidate. An interest in books would be a big plus.
