DescriptionIn accordance with the Vision Purpose and Values and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Manager or designate the Child & Family Services Consultant provides and coordinates the delivery of parent support services in a community-based outreach program; works in the community setting and clients homes; facilitates education/support/skill development groups; provides direct and indirect screening assessment and supports for children youth and families experiencing social behavioral and/or emotional challenges.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Training And Experience
Bachelors degree in Child and Youth Care or in a field related to the growth and development of children adolescents and families. One (1) year related experience. Current Level C Basic Life Saving Certificate. Knowledge of available programs and services and applicable legislation. Travel is a requirement of this job. Travel arrangements must meet the requirements of the program.
Skills And Abilities
- Demonstrates leadership
- Uses consensus building de-escalation problem-solving and conflict resolution
- Works effectively with a wide range of community and facility contacts including patients/clients families VIHA employees physicians community and public agencies
- Uses judgment observation and assessment skills
- Fosters and promotes public relations
- Assigns and delegates work appropriately
- Physically and emotionally able to carry out the duties of the position
- Communicates effectively verbally and in writing
- Teaches child management and parenting skills individually and within a group setting
- Works independently demonstrating initiative and with limited supervision
- Promotes positive change and independence
- Operates related equipment including a computer.
- Keyboard 30 wpm.
