We are looking for a dedicated and motivated individual to join us as an Executive Laboratory Technician who is passionate in providing technical support for undergraduate practical classes field trips and research activities together with the Manager and Assistant Manager main responsibilities involve activities at the aquaculture facility (fish husbandry) and the science laboratory (day-to-day upkeep).
The Laboratory Technician works closely with the Laboratory team to organise and set up for undergraduate practical classes and research activities. The role is accountable for maintaining the laboratory and aquarium facilities including cleaning and basic maintenance of equipment ensuring stock levels are inventoried received and stored according to standard operating procedures.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide Laboratory Support (Academics) :Assist Laboratory Manager in providing technical support for undergraduate classes and workshops including but not limited to the preparation and breakdown of practical classes and associated equipment needs.
- Provide Laboratory Support (Research) :Provide technical support for research activities as instructed by Laboratory Manager including but not limited to the preparation of commonly used reagents chemicals and consumables; autoclaving and decontamination.
- Upkeep of marine specimens and life support systems :Assist the Laboratory Manager in maintaining terrestrial marine and freshwater flora and fauna. Clean and maintain aquarium. Ensure the smooth running of the water systems and tanks and conduct minor repairs as required.
- Laboratory upkeep :Keep the laboratory clean and organized.
Person Specifications
- Minimum GCE O or GCE N or Diploma in relevant field
- Preferred 1 year of working experience in Laboratory.
- Able to work with laboratory animals (fish)
- Role may require work to be conducted on some weekends/ public holidays. Such arrangement will be compensated with OIL.
- Knowledge of aquaculture or experience working in a fish farm is beneficial
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work in a diligent organised and methodical manner
