Job location: The Central Executive Management Office of BBMRI-ERIC in Graz Austria (or exceptionally remote work)
Job purpose: As Experienced Legal & Compliance Expert your expertise and motivation will make you a core member of the Department for Ethical Legal & Societal Implications (ELSI). With your forwardthinking approach to legal and bioethical demands and developments you will help shape the future of our research infrastructure in Health and Life Sciences towards One Health digitalization and global perspectives as overarching paradigms in line with BBMRI-ERICs 10-Year Roadmap 2025-2035 which is currently implemented through BBMRI-ERICs Work Programme 2025-2027.
Contract: As work-life balance is a high priority at BBMRI-ERIC less than a full-time contract (40 hours/week) can be agreed (e.g. 85%); also in conjunction with co-affiliation at a University.

Key responsibilities:
- With your profound legal and bioethical knowledge you will assess existing data access conditions relevant policies on data management and data governance models in relation to their ethical and legal compliance
- You connect with National and Organizational Nodes of BBMRI-ERIC to prepare ELSI guidance for biobanks including advice on legal and or bioethical issues in society and provide best practices for implementing key strategies;
- You engage with stakeholders of BBMRI-ERIC to collect and analyze their ELSI needs and apply your legal expertise to guide consultations;
- With a high degree of personal responsibility you work on demanding challenges like implementation of GDPR the European Health Data Space (EHDS) and the participation and further development of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC);
- Follow and be up to date with recent EU regulatory developments such as recent Digital Omnibus in particular to GDPR AI Act MDR/IVDR;
- Building and maintaining scientific relationships is supported by your clearly structured forms of communication and inspired by your legal and bioethics expertise;
- With your legal and bioethical understanding you not only liaise easily with external stakeholders but also work and grow within an ELSI team of interdisciplinary experts from the field of social sciences life sciences philosophy bioethics and law.
In this role your required qualifications and skills are:
- University studies (PhD or higher in the field of law; bioethics expertise would be an advantage);
- Advanced knowledge of GDPR sensitive health data domain including informed consent secondary use and data sharing (within EU but also across the Globe) and Ethics boards;
- Presentation and moderation skills at EU and/or global level;
- You have sound knowledge of project management and are able to monitor legal and financial obligations and tasks with ease;
- Experience minimum 3 years in the scientific management of interdisciplinary and international projects (especially Horizon Europe) and teams would be an advantage;
- Familiarity with the European Research Infrastructure ecosystem would be an advantage;
- Independent and self driven working style with experience minimum 3 years;
- Experience in leading and or guiding international consortia including diplomatic skills when dealing with senior external management would be an advantage;
- Capability in handling legal framework agreements;
- Your communication and organizational skills bring teamwork to life;
- Professional fluency in English as English is the official working language of BBMRI-ERIC;
- Ability to deal with challenges in a diplomatic manner;
- Readiness for moderate travel.
