JOB SUMMARY
Assists with the daily direction of personnel and resources within a clinical specialty or department. Provide clinical leadership necessary for
coordinating and managing resources that contribute to high quality care in a cost effective manner. To collaborate with physicians and
others to ensure optimal patient care during surgical procedures. Responsible for the Laser Safety Program in the Operating Room.
Reports to: Director - Surgical Services & Chief Nursing Officer

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Works with CNO and Director of Surgical Services to plan and monitor staffing activities including staff scheduling educational/development
activities hiring orientation coaching/counseling and performance evaluations.
Identifies and resolves issues affecting the delivery of clinical services.
Performs quality assurance studies and assists with implementation of QA/QI initiatives.
Works collaboratively with CNO and Director of Surgical Services to serve as a resource to staff and external contacts on issues related to
patient care patient flow and clinical standards policies and procedures.
Monitors departmental compliance with applicable requirements including accreditation legal and The Joint Commission.
Ensures employee competence is accurately assessed obtained and documented
Assists with employee corrective counseling/behavioral accountability
Performs timekeeping for specified areas
Assists with productivity reports for specified areas

Assists in obtaining pricing quotes for repairs replacements or newly requested equipment
Assists with the evaluation of new products and the organization of approved product trials
Serves as a physician liaison for designated areas
Provides oversight of projects and service line expansions for specified areas
Performs duties and responsibilities for Laser Safety as outlined in the Laser Safety Officer policy.
Performs direct patient care within scope of practice as necessary

POSITION SUMMARY:

Directs the departments activities and resources to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.

Directs and evaluates departmental operations including patient care delivery information technologies service level determination and complaint management to achieve performance and quality control objectives.

Plans and monitors staffing activities including hiring orienting evaluating disciplinary actions and continuing education initiatives.

Prepares monitors and evaluates departmental budgets and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.

Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.

Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.

Regular and reliable attendance.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance (e.g. HIPAA). Skilled in the application of policies and procedures. Knowledge of Business Office Standards and Recommended Practices.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the work of others including planning assigning scheduling and reviewing work ensures quality standards. Responsible for hiring terminating training and developing reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff.

Education:

Minimum Education
Bachelors degree in nursing - Required
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful
environment and take appropriate action.
Bachelors Degree in related field preferred
Applicable work experience may be used in lieu of education

Certifications:

BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) - Required to be current upon hire.
Licenses:
State of Tennessee or Multi-State Registered Nurse licensure - Required
Minimum Work Experience
5 years of Surgical Services Nursing experience - Required

Skills and Abilities:

Business Mathematical Skills -- Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rates ratios and percentages and to draw and in-terpret graphs.

Moderate Computer Skills -- Frequent use of electronic mail word processing data entry spreadsheets graphics etc. Ability to create maintain and incorporate simple functions into documents spreadsheets databases and presentations to support business objectives.
