Job Summary
The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Holding Area Registered Nurse (Cath Lab Holding RN) provides pre-procedure and post-procedure nursing care for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization and other cardiovascular procedures. This role focuses on patient preparation prior to procedures and monitoring patients during the recovery phase following catheterization.
The nurse works closely with cardiologists cath lab staff and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe patient care effective recovery monitoring and smooth patient flow within the cardiac catheterization department.
Key Responsibilities
Provide pre-procedure patient assessments for individuals scheduled for cardiac catheterization and related cardiovascular procedures.
Prepare patients for procedures including IV access medication administration and patient education.
Monitor patients during the post-procedure recovery phase following catheterization or interventional procedures.
Assess and manage vascular access sites for bleeding hematoma or complications.
Monitor patient vital signs cardiac rhythm and overall clinical status during recovery.
Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and clinical protocols.
Educate patients and families on post-procedure care discharge instructions and activity restrictions.
Coordinate with the cath lab team to ensure efficient patient flow and procedure scheduling.
Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record system.
Adhere to hospital policies regarding infection control patient safety and clinical care standards.
Required Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) License.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Experience working in cardiac catheterization critical care or cardiac telemetry settings.
Strong patient assessment and clinical monitoring skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced procedural environment.
