Job Description Summary:
Under general supervision the Inclusion Specialist supports Boulder Parks and Recreation in providing safe fun and fulfilling summer camp experiences for youth with disabilities. This position is directly supervised by the Camps Supervisor and works closely with them to support a growing number of youth in inclusive camp settings. By proactively learning about each campers needs setting up accommodations mentoring staff and communicating with families the Inclusion Specialist is an integral member of the summer camp team. Staff in this role will be hands-on with camp groups join in activities and help adapt activities so they work well for everyone.Job Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinates inclusion support within camp groups.
Discusses rules regulations and accommodations for youth with disabilities with camp/program staff.
Educates models and provides support on leading and managing groups and behavior support.
Creates a positive relationship and good communication with the participants parents staff and program coordinators.
Monitors participants to ensure their safety.
Ensures the safety and guidance of participants and staff in inclusive program environments.
Assesses and makes decisions in emergency situations.
Administers first aid and contacts medical assistance when necessary.
Implements and oversee participant inclusion support and accommodations.
Greets participants and parents as they arrive to camps and programs.
Checks in with the familiesaddressing any concerns in a solution-focused and positive manner.
Works closely with the staff to ensure all participants are being included.
Manages daily operations of inclusion for camps & programs with the support of the program supervisor.
Ensures program quality addressing concerns with staff and supporting them through improvement as needed.
Follows all State Licensing and Boulder County Public Health Policies and Procedures.
Utilizes computer programs to ensure access to all camper paperwork as needed.
Gets to know each one to help provide the best support possible and by being fun and playful with the participants
Creates and implements supports such as picture schedules and token economy systems.
Creates and implements behavior plans and group management.
Assists in equipment management and ensures proper use of equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability and willingness to attend and keep current on all required trainings including State of Colorado Child Care requirements.
Ability and willingness to drive participants and staff in vehicles provided by Boulder Parks & Recreation.
Ability and willingness to work as part of a team.
Ability to be a leader.
Ability to complete and maintain accurate records and documentation.
Ability to create positive customer service relationships with parents campers therapists program partners and city staff.
Ability to evaluate conditions in various locations and make judgments related to safety.
Ability to evaluate customer problems and make decisions within guidelines.
Ability to organize information and follow established procedures.
Ability to supervise staff volunteers and participants.
Ability to teach staff how to implement group management modifications and accommodations
Knowledge of the Americans with Disability Act.
Skills in effective and tactful interpersonal communication.
Skills in conflict resolution.
Must be 21 years of age or older to meet State of Colorado Licensing requirements.
Valid Drivers License and ability to maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record.
Have and maintain acceptable background information including criminal conviction history.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to communicate bi-lingually in English and Spanish.
Knowledge of principles and experience or certification in instructing adaptive sport recreation or leisure activities.
Skills at a beginner level in American Sign Language
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist CTRS
Current Red Cross or equivalent CPR AED and First Aid Certification
Experience as a State Licensed Camp Director or Inclusion Specialist.
Experience supervising or training staff volunteers and groups of participants
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must meet State of Colorado School-Age Licensing Qualifications:
A 4-year college degree in recreation education (elementary or early childhood) or a subject in the human service field; OR 2-years associate degreeand 3 months of satisfactory and verifiable hours working with children since the age of 18 in the care & supervision of 4 or more children; OR 21 months (3185 hours) years of verifiable hours working with children since the age of 18 in the care and supervision of 4 of more children and be willing to complete course work applicable to school-age children within the first 9 months of employment.
Experience working with and implementing accommodations for people with disabilities.
Previous camp or recreation program experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Physical and mental effort: Must have sufficient strength agility stamina and flexibility to lift carry or move a variety of objects up to 50 be able to work while crouching kneeling bending stooping or assisting children for long periods of have sufficient hearing to be able to hear and discriminate differing sounds in a variety of vision to be able to discriminate between colors size and type of objects and people both close and distant.
Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
Machines and equipment used: Non-motorized watercraft including kayaks and paddleboards general recreational equipment
