Journeyman Concrete Finisher

Key Information:

Hours: Project dependent. Minimum 40 hours per week with overtime hours needed during the busy season (April - October)
Must be willing to work evenings and weekends. (on-call rotation)
Hourly rate is dependent on experience.

Job Description:

Smoothing leveling and finishing freshly poured concrete using hand tools (floats trowels) or power equipment (power trowels vibrating screeds).
Checking formwork grade and steel reinforcement and installing fixtures like anchor bolts or steel plates.
Applying hardening and sealing compounds to cure surfaces as well as waterproof or dampproof concrete.
Patching resurfacing and replacing damaged sections of concrete.
Creating specialized finishes such as broom or stamped finishes and installing control joints to manage cracking.
Work with the Safety Advisors to ensure the work is performed safely.

Experience and Certification Requirements:

Must have 3 years of proven experience in the trade or completion of a formal apprenticeship.
Ability to perform heavy lifting bending and working on knees for extended periods.
Understanding of concrete properties curing processes and ability to read blueprints or specifications.
Adhering to safety policies including using proper PPE for protection against concrete chemicals
CSTS 2020 and WHMIS 2015 required.
Strong communication skills.
Must have strong working knowledge of concrete construction.
A valid class 5 drivers license is required.
A clean 5-year commercial drivers abstract is required and must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
A reliable means of transportation is required.
Proficient English language skills required.

Education: Completion of an apprenticeship program or 3 years of experience in the trade.
