Duties and Responsibilities

  1. *Provides academic support to the department chair and to the Family and Consumer Sciences Department (FCS).
  2. *Coordinates and assists with course planning preparation and development of educational materials; designing developing and preparing program promotion media and other related materials.
  3. *Facilitates and enters educational materials and course planning information (such as Coursedog) and makes modifications as needed.
  4. *Develops coordinates and conducts departmental activities and events to recruit students.
  5. ** Assists in the development of the departmental student-alumni survey and the entry of student data for evaluations of the departmental academic programs.
  6. *Collects statistical data and prepares various reports relating to the departmental academic program operation and administration in accordance with UH academic requirements.
  7. *Reviews academic literature and curricula to support program development student recruitment and alumni tracking across Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) subunits including Apparel Product Development Human Development & Family Studies and Family Resources.
  8. Supervises the departmental student assistants.
  9. Supports departmental academic projects and other miscellaneous academic and institutional activities.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in business social sciences or education or related field and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for business administration; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Functional knowledge of principles practices and techniques in business management demonstrated by knowledge understanding and ability to apply concepts terminology.
  3. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles theories federal and state laws rules regulations and systems associated with business management.
  4. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the departmental administration.
  5. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation write reports and procedures and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team members and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  8. Knowledge and experience working with academic course catalogs (e.g. Coursedog) learning management systems and academic or institutional data programs.



Desirable Qualifications

  1. Working knowledge and data application systems such as Excel SPSS Access and other data base systems.
  2. Familiarity with photoshop editing tools and illustrator programs such as Adobe Acrobat Photoshop and Illustrator.
  3. Demonstrated ability to review literature and curriculum.
  4. Knowledge and experience with higher education academic programs.
  5. Demonstrated ability to promote student registration recruiting and academic or institutional events.
