Job Purpose
The Commercial Cattle Farm Manager is responsible for the overall management productivity and profitability of the cattle farming operation. The role includes overseeing livestock health breeding programs pasture management farm staff equipment and operational budgets to ensure optimal cattle production and sustainable farm practices.
Duties & Responsibilities

1. Livestock Management
Oversee the daily care feeding and management of cattle.
Monitor herd health and condition and coordinate veterinary care when required.
Implement and manage breeding calving and herd improvement programs.
Maintain accurate livestock records including births deaths vaccinations treatments and movements.
Ensure proper nutrition and feeding schedules for different herd groups.
2. Farm Operations Management
Plan and manage daily farm operations and activities.
Supervise pasture rotation and grazing management to ensure optimal land use.
Ensure water systems fencing and infrastructure are maintained.
Manage feed production storage and procurement where required.
Oversee farm equipment usage and ensure proper maintenance.
3. Staff Supervision
Supervise and manage farm workers and general labour staff.
Allocate daily tasks and ensure work is completed efficiently.
Provide training and guidance on livestock handling and farm procedures.
Ensure staff follow health and safety regulations.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong livestock management knowledge
- Leadership and team management
- Financial and operational planning
- Knowledge of breeding programs and herd improvement
- Strong problem-solving ability
- Good record keeping and reporting skills
- Ability to work long hours and in outdoor environments
Desired Experience & Qualification
Education
- Diploma or Degree in Agriculture Animal Science or Farm Management (preferred but not always essential).
Experience
- Minimum 58 years experience in commercial cattle farming.
- Proven experience managing large cattle herds and farm operations.
- Experience supervising farm labour teams.
