Overview
Reporting to the Sr. Associate Vice President this position is responsible for overseeing and executing a fundraising program that includes major leadership and annual giving and corporate and foundation relations for Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University. Leads a team of frontline fundraisers manages a portfolio of high-capacity and principal-level prospects partners closely with academic and clinical leadership and advances a comprehensive philanthropic strategy aligned with institutional and university-wide fundraising goals. Plays an influential role in campaign planning donor engagement stewardship strategy and development of a sustainable pipeline of philanthropic support.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct leadership supervision mentorship and performance management to the major gift officers mid-level (leadership level giving) gift officers director of annual giving and director of corporate and foundation relations. Manages the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts annual gifts corporate and foundation relations to achieve established fundraising goals and in alignment with established metrics and accountability measures.
- Under the guidance of the Senior Associate Vice President develops and implements comprehensive fundraising strategies aligned with Brock VHS and ODU institutional priorities. Serves as a collaborator on advancement growth pipeline strategy campaign planning and performance outcomes.
- Manages a portfolio of major and principal level prospects including trustees and high net-worth individuals. Leads cultivation process through donor engagement gift solicitation and stewardship of these significant gifts to strengthen relationships that result in lifelong giving including working with complex and multi-year commitments. Partner with senior leadership to develop proposals gift agreements and transformational funding strategies.
- Collaborates with faculty department chairs clinical leaders and trustees to advance philanthropic priorities. Prepare and support academic and board engagement strategies and activities. Coordinate across Brock VHS schools to ensure integrated donor-centered fundraising alignment with institutional priorities.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Vice President for Development & Alumni Relations.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelors degree required from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible development/advancement experience with emphasis on major and leadership giving. Corporate and foundation relations experience a plus.
- Demonstrated record of success securing high five six and seven figure philanthropic commitments including complex and multi-year gifts.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of supervisory and management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in higher education healthcare administration business or related field preferred.
- Experience working in a complex mission driven environment such as academic medicine health sciences higher education or a comparable nonprofit setting.
- Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification preferred but not required.
