Lower Columbia College invites applications for Adjunct Faculty in Early Childhood Education (ECED). Adjunct instructors teach courses within the ECED program and contribute to preparing students for careers in early learning settings including childcare centers Head Start family home care and preschool programs.Courses may be offered in face-to-face hybrid and online formats. Instruction may occur during the daytime or evening depending on enrollment and program needs.

Contract rates:

Lecture rate is $80.68 per contact hour ($887.48 per credit).

Lab rate is $60.08 per contact hour ($1321.76 per credit).

Field-based experience rate is $43.64 per contact hour ($1440.16 per credit).

Adjunct faculty are hired on a quarterly basis as needed.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach ECED courses in alignment with course outcomes state workforce standards and industry expectations.

  • Prepare syllabi lesson plans and instructional materials consistent with the approved curriculum.

  • Integrate culturally responsive inclusive and developmentally appropriate practices.

  • Use Canvas (designated LMS) to communicate with students and manage coursework.

  • Assess student learning and provide timely constructive feedback.

  • Maintain regular communication with students.

  • Support students in meeting professional competencies required in early learning settings.

  • Collaborate with full-time faculty regarding student progress when needed.

  • Support workforce preparation.

  • Maintain professional currency in early learning practices.

Typical Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Early Childhood Education Child Development Education or a closely related fieldORBachelors degree in a related field with significant professional experience.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience working in an early learning setting (preferably within the last ten years).

  • Demonstrated knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice.

  • Commitment to equity inclusion and culturally responsive teaching.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience at the college level.

  • Experience with online or hybrid instruction.

  • Experience supervising practicum students.

  • Familiarity with Washington State early learning systems and DCYF requirements.

  • Bilingual or multilingual skills.
