GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Special Education Supervisor provides instructional leadership and supervisory support to schools to ensure the delivery of high-quality specially designed instruction that enables students with disabilities to access participate and make progress in the general curriculum. This role emphasizes collaboration with the Curriculum and Instruction Department school improvement teams and other central office departments to strengthen instructional practices analyze student and program data and build educator capacity through targeted professional development. The Supervisor supports schoolsparticularly those identified for improvementin implementing research-based instructional practices aligned with federal and state requirements and division priorities.

- Provides direct instructional leadership to schools to ensure the implementation of specially designed instruction aligned to grade-level standards in the general curriculum.
- Supports special education and general education teachers in designing delivering and monitoring research-based instructional practices for students with disabilities.
- Conducts classroom observations focused on instructional quality alignment to IEPs and student access to the general curriculum providing actionable feedback to teachers and administrators.
- Guides schools in aligning IEP goals accommodations and services with core instructional expectations and curriculum frameworks
- Participates in cross-departmental problem-solving to address systemic instructional and programmatic barriers affecting students with disabilities
- Analyzes multiple sources of data (e.g. achievement progress monitoring instructional fidelity and program indicators) to evaluate the effectiveness of instructional practices and special education programs.
- Uses data to identify trends strengths and areas for growth related to access progress and outcomes for students with disabilities.
- Supports schools in using data to inform instructional planning interventions and adjustments to service delivery.
- Assists in monitoring compliance-related data as it intersects with instructional quality and student outcomes.
- Observes teachers and provides feedback to the teacher and administrative staff.
- Provides instructional and curriculum support in the areas of instructional methodologies teaching strategies and specialized instruction to schools and teachers.
- Coordinates and participates in continuous professional development and staff development activities.
- Meets with special education teachers and/or representatives at monthly cluster meetings.
- Attends scheduled staff meetings evening meetings of the Special Education Advisory Committee and eligibility/IEP meeting
- Serves on committees as requested selected or assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles practices and procedures of school administration: practices methods and techniques used in the special education process from Child Find activities through evaluative procedures for a suspected disability; the legal and ethical concerns related to educating students with disabilities. Must possess the ability to develop and present ideas effectively in oral and written form and to establish and maintain effective relationships with school staff the School Board parents and the general public. Comprehensive skills and knowledge in the areas of curriculum and instruction communication collection and interpretation of data and the legal requirements of all laws and regulations pertaining to Special Education students.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Masters Degree and a Virginia license in administration or supervision or its equivalent with knowledge of curriculum and instruction specially designed interventions research based programs and supporting special education teachers in collaboration with general education teachers and school administrators.

Work is typically performed in an office or school location. Regular travel to school locations.
