F.H. Collins Secondary School is currently seeking a passionate educator to join our dynamic learning community. F.H.C is a dual-track English/French Immersion school serving approximately 800 students in grades 8 through 12. We provide students with a diverse range of academic athletic performance outdoor/experiential trades and arts programs. We are proud of our strong academic programming cultural diversity and commitment to meeting the needs of all learners.

Located in the capital city of Whitehorse Yukon F.H.C sits alongside the Yukon River on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Taan Kwächän Council. Our school continuously works to honour First Nations ways of knowing doing and being and we value our deep connections with families and the broader community

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent specializing in secondary education;
  • Possession of or currently completing a Masters Degree in Education or equivalent in educational administration and/or another related field;
  • Demonstrated leadership in a secondary school
  • Demonstrated at least 5 years of successful teaching practice in a classroom setting;
  • Demonstrated ability and success supporting success for a wide variety of learners including vulnerable and extending with appropriate interventions and supports;
  • Experience in developing and implementing diverse student programs to meet the needs of secondary students with Individual Education Plans Student Support Plans Behaviour Support Plans and Safety Plans;
  • Demonstrated ability as a teacher and/or administrator to facilitate safe welcoming and inclusive learning environments for students
  • Recent experience as a secondary school leader / administrator preferred

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • Recent experience leading results-focused initiatives at the secondary school level
  • Commitment to create a shared vision to build upon the multiple strengths of the school and move the school forward as a beacon of excellence in curricular co-curricular and extra-curricular programs;
  • Ability to coach staff to teaching excellence; demonstrate an ability to facilitate professional development focused on student learning and assessment;
  • Commitment to be a leadership team member and to participate in the total school program demonstrating strong interpersonal and team-building skills;
  • Proven organizational and decision-making skills demonstrating effective listening ability to accommodate and to mediate diverse views to stand up for what is best for the students and the school to stand firm on informed decisions and follow through;
  • A record of leadership which fosters a healthy school environment in which students and staff feel respected; parents feel welcome and are encouraged to play an important role; the community is invited to contribute to the positive learning environment and a high standard of education is valued and maintained;
  • Demonstrated deep knowledge of the Yukon Curriculum and its underlying philosophies as well as the practicalities of implementation in Yukon Secondary Schools;
  • Awareness and appreciation of the cultural diversity of the Yukon and the ability to build upon the strengths of this diversity in the school culture and the curriculum;
  • Demonstrated strong curricular and lesson planning and organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to plan organize assess and manage secondary students in general classroom settings;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and collaborative skills working with parents staff members school leadership consultants and community agencies and First Nations;
  • An appreciation of the cultural diversity of the Yukon with the ability to incorporate and promote this diversity throughout the school;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity towards the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population
