As a Groundskeeper you play an important role in maintaining the beauty safety and functionality of our campus. Through landscaping grounds maintenance and exterior support work you help ensure that residents staff and visitors enjoy a welcoming and well-maintained environment every day.

What You Will Do

  • Perform full-spectrum grounds landscaping and exterior support work across the Kendal at Lexington campus
  • Maintain campus grounds through mowing weeding pruning trimming mulching fertilizing and other landscaping duties
  • Support overall campus beautification and sustainability efforts
  • Operate landscaping and maintenance equipment including mowers tractors chainsaws and similar tools
  • Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions while maintaining safe work practices
  • Serve as a primary team member responsible for inclement weather response including snow and ice removal salting and flood preparation or mitigation
  • Respond to weather-related needs during normal work hours and assist with after-hours or adjusted schedule work as coordinated by the supervisor
  • Provide team-support assistance across Facilities Services including basic electrical plumbing carpentry painting equipment maintenance and other maintenance tasks as assigned
  • Document work order receipt and completion accurately
  • Secure and properly store equipment when not in use
  • Complete incident accident and service reports as required
  • Assist with moving residents equipment furniture and event setup or breakdown as directed by the supervisor
  • Perform assigned preventative maintenance tasks in a timely manner
  • Respond to off-duty emergencies staff absences and special events as needed
  • Purchase and deliver supplies parts and equipment as requested by the supervisor
  • Report unusual or suspicious conditions or behaviors to appropriate personnel
  • Follow all safe work procedures including the use of gloves masks eyewear hearing protection and appropriate clothing
  • Protect residents staff and visitors by utilizing cones barricades reflective vests caution signs and detours when necessary
  • Coordinate needed maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment
  • Collect and dispose of exterior trash and recycling for the Anderson Center North and South Apartment Buildings Borden Center and exterior areas of Sunnyside
  • Perform weekly trash and recycling pickup from campus collection areas including Sycamore Lane Sunrise Ridge Circle cottage trash rooms and dog waste receptacles
  • Clean the interior of Kendal vehicles assigned to Facilities Services Maintenance
  • Perform post-construction or rough cleaning following repairs renovations or construction projects
  • Respond to infrastructure issues such as water leaks and sewer backups
  • Replenish gasoline in all Kendal vehicles
  • Assist with special projects and perform other related duties as assigned

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Virginia drivers license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation
  • Ability to properly wear and use designated personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Ability to safely operate landscaping equipment including mowers tractors chainsaws and similar machinery
  • Proficiency in the safe use of maintenance equipment hand tools and power tools
  • Ability to read write and communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work cooperatively with residents and adapt tasks to meet individual needs or special circumstances
  • Comfort working with an older adult population
  • Good judgment initiative and a team-oriented mindset
  • A dependable safety-focused and service-oriented attitude

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat cold rain and snow
  • Ability to walk long distances across campus
  • Ability to stand bend reach lift and perform physical labor for extended periods
  • Ability to lift push pull and carry heavy materials and equipment
  • Ability to safely operate groundskeeping equipment tools and machinery
