The Operational Inspections & Technical Services team plays a critical role in safeguarding Sydney Waters assets across our drinking water recycled water stormwater and wastewater networks. Our work helps protect waterways reduce environmental risks and ensure essential services continue safely and efficiently.

About the role

Were looking for a skilled and safetyfocused Operations Technician to join our Operational Inspections & Technical Services team. If youre passionate about protecting essential water assets enjoy technical field work and want to play a key role in safeguarding our environment this is the job for you.

In this fieldbased role you will work across a wide range of environments and conditionsincluding uneven terrain open trenches confined spaces live wastewater systems adverse weather and longdistance drivingwhile ensuring safe highquality and compliant operational outcomes.

What youll be doing

As an Operations Technician you will:

  • Deliver multiple inspection programs across our drinking water recycled water stormwater and wastewater networks.
  • Inspect unmanned assets to assess safety environmental risks condition and operational readiness.
  • Identify faults and specify corrective actions including raising and managing MAXIMO work orders.
  • Conduct specialist inspections and provide accurate timely reporting to internal stakeholders.
  • Install and maintain IoT devices across the wastewater network.
  • Participate in environmental audits and help implement improvement actions.
  • Use digital tools (Formsite PowerApps HYDRA Spatial Hub Maximo O365 SharePoint) to capture analyse and report asset data.
  • Support service providers and stakeholders by offering operational expertise and proactive advice.
  • Promote Sydney Waters values and culture through safe work practices customer focus and highquality outcomes.

What youll bring

Required qualifications & licences

  • Certificate IV in Water Industry Operations or relevant trade qualifications or equivalent industry experience.
  • Current CClass (or higher) driver licence.
  • WHS General Construction Induction card (White Card).
  • Confined space entry certification and ongoing fitness to perform this work.

Desired

  • Hold current Dam Safety & Surveillance qualifications or the ability to obtain within 2 years.

Experience were looking for

  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining and operating water infrastructure or utility assets.
  • Strong safety performance and awareness in field environments.
  • High levels of attention to detail when performing inspections to ensure accurate assessment reliable reporting and effective identification of risks or defects.
  • Ability to interpret operational plans diagrams and schematics.
  • High digital literacy with mobile computing and data entry systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including clear and detailed reporting.
  • Ability to work autonomously manage workload and collaborate within a highperforming team.
  • Effective stakeholder engagement and problemsolving skills.
  • Awareness of environmental regulatory and compliance requirements.

Additional role information

  • This role involves physical activity including walking on uneven terrain lifting equipment and regular outdoor work.
  • You will be working near and around live wastewater systems; full PPE will be provided.
  • You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident to be considered.
  • The successful completion of a Criminal History Check and Medical Assessment forms part of the recruitment process.
