Summary Statement
Essential Functions

- Implements appropriate law enforcement action in response to criminal domestic violence traffic miscellaneous complaints and other activities.
- Investigates suspicious and criminal activity which includes detecting collecting and preserving physical evidence interviewing victims witnesses suspects and defendants processing charging documents executing search and arrest warrants and processing defendants.
- Performs vehicle and foot patrol of assigned areas.
- Performs community policing through informational presentations and educational seminars for other state agencies schools the public and community organizations.
- Provides protective services to judges victims jurors witnesses state employees and visitors legislators and the general public as needed.
- Provides assistance to other law enforcement agencies as back-up or primary response.
- Takes physical custody of and transports felons and prisoners to appropriate facilities.
- Presents evidence and testimony and prosecutes cases in court.
- Prepares a variety of reports pertaining to response of incidents daily activities investigations and training.
Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS for Capitol Police Sergeant
Applicants must have education training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
- Possession of an active State of Delaware Council on Police Training Certificate or equivalent OR eligibility for recertification per Delaware Administrative Code Title 1 Chapter 801 Section 8.0 Re-activation Requirements of Police Officers.
- At least seven years experience as a Certified Police Officer.
- Three years experience in law enforcement which includes interpreting and enforcing laws investigating suspicious or criminal activity interviewing witnesses victims suspects and defendants executing search and arrests warrants and processing defendants.
- Knowledge of staff supervision acquired through course work academic training training provided through an employer or performing as a lead worker overseeing the work of others; OR supervising staff which may include planning assigning reviewing and evaluating the work of others; OR supervising through subordinate supervisors a group of professional technical and clerical employees.
- Possession of a valid Drivers License (not suspended revoked or cancelled or disqualified from driving).

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicableterms and conditions of employment in accordance with Title 29 Chapter 59 and Title 19 Chapter 13 and 16. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.
