Position Summary:
The Tuck Shoppe Summer Worker supports the daily retail operations of the Tuck Shoppe in Carter Hall. This position is responsible for delivering excellent customer service processing sales transactions maintaining inventory and ensuring the store remains clean organized and fully stocked. The Summer Worker plays an important role in creating a welcoming and professional shopping experience for students faculty staff and campus guests while upholding the Colleges core values.
Expected hours of work per week: 35-40
Work Location & Hours: Tuck Shoppe Carter Hall; Mon- Fri; 8am-5pm
The Tuck Shoppe Summer Workers position will primarily assist customers with check-outs inventory and store operations. Approximately 35-40 hours per week including some Saturdays (no Sunday work).
Qualifications for Position:
- Punctual and attentive to detail
- Ability to interact with customers in a friendly professional and positive manner
- Ability to reliably complete tasks with little supervision
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
- Cash handling experience a plus
Expected Duties and Responsibilities:
- Use the cash register to enter sales transactions for customers
- Keep the store clean neat and stocked
- Offer friendly and helpful customer service throughout the guest experience
- Answer telephones professionally
- Run on-campus errands as requested
- Organize and merchandise products assist with inventory
- Adhere to the dress code reviewed in training

Work Environment
The Tuck Shoppe operates within Carter Hall at Covenant College and functions as a fast-paced customer-focused retail environment. The workspace includes a sales floor checkout counter storage areas and light office space. Employees regularly interact with students faculty staff campus guests and vendors throughout the day.
This position requires standing for extended periods moving throughout the store to restock merchandise and occasionally lifting inventory shipments. The environment can be busy during peak hours (such as the start of semesters special events and lunch breaks) and quieter at other times requiring flexibility and initiative to complete organizational and inventory tasks.
The role involves routine use of retail and office equipment including a point-of-sale system computer telephone and credit card processing devices. Team members are expected to maintain a clean organized and welcoming store atmosphere that reflects professionalism and the mission of the College.
Physical Demands
This position requires regular physical activity consistent with a retail environment. Employees should be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Standing and Walking: Frequent standing and moving throughout the store during scheduled shifts.
- Sitting: Occasional sitting while completing administrative or register-related tasks.
- Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift carry and move merchandise and supply boxes weighing approximately 25-50 pounds.
- Reaching and Bending: Frequent reaching bending stooping and stocking merchandise at various heights.
- Manual Dexterity: Use of hands and fingers to operate a cash register handle cash stock shelves and use standard office and retail equipment.
- Communication: Clear verbal communication to assist customers answer telephones and coordinate with coworkers in a busy retail setting.
