Description of Work

Want to work at the Worlds Largest Zoo that saves wildlife life in wild places The North Carolina Zoo seeks an enthusiastic Purchasing Manager to join our team! This position serves as the Purchasing Manager for the North Carolina Zoo and is responsible for the leadership oversight and daily management of procurement and contracting functions. The role ensures the acquisition of goods and services is conducted in a cost-effective timely ethical and legally compliant manner in support of Zoo operations animal care facilities and administrative programs.

Key Responsibilities
Direct and oversee procurement of equipment supplies goods and services necessary to support Zoo operations including specialized animal care veterinary facility and operational needs.
Administer service maintenance professional and operational contracts supporting Zoo functions.
Develop scopes of work performance standards and evaluation criteria in collaboration with requesting departments.
Ensure procurement activities align with approved budgets and funding sources.
Maintain internal controls that support audit compliance and financial integrity.
Provide guidance to Zoo departments on procurement procedures requirements and timelines.
Supervise and support procurement staff including buyers and related support personnel.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Recruitment Range: $41 206 - $54699

Candidates meet the minimum qualifications of this position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed onthe vacancy announcement. Vacancy specific knowledge skills and abilities (KSAs) and/or management preferences are notrequired. Applicants who possess the following are preferred:

  • Purchasing procurement contracting or supply chain operations experience

  • Knowledge of public sector purchasing

  • Knowledge/experience with the State of NC e-Procurement system

  • Knowledge/experience with the State of NC Procurement card process

  • Experience supervising staff

Position/Physical Requirements

  • Work schedule: Monday Friday 8am 5pm some weekends may be required

  • Light work office setting

  • Eligible for telework up to 4 days per month

This position is deemed eligible for hybrid telework under DNCRs Telework Policy.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree from an appropriately accredited institution
OR
Associate degree in business or related field of study from an appropriately accredited institution
AND
two years of procurement experience
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Veterans and National Guard Preference

Applicants seeking Veterans Preference must attach a DD Form 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty along with the state application.

Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach an NGB 23A (RPAS) along with the state application if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing.

Applicants who are former member of either the NC Army National Guard or the NC Air National Guard with honorable discharge and six years of creditable service must attach a copy of the DD 256 or NGB 22 along with the state application.
