This position will be assigned to Sherwood Middle School for the 2026-2027 school year. The school nurse position is a member of the Shrewsbury Educator Association is paid on the negotiated teacher scale and is eligible for all benefits afforded to SEA members. Preferred candidates should hold a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Massachusetts (M.G.L. c.71 s.53) a School Nurse license through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education current CPR certification AED training from a recognized provider (such as the American Red Cross or American Heart Association) a strong knowledge and demonstrated skill in working with children of middle school age and a desire to be part of a collaborative school candidates with diverse racial ethnic cultural religious class and/or gender background and experiences are strongly encouraged to Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Manages and coordinates health services for students within the school setting while interacting with their educational goals personal health and public health needsOrganizes and implements state-mandated programs such as immunization surveillance and screening programs. Completes and submits state mandated reports and surveys as required by the Massachusetts Department of Public HealthPromotes positive safety practices within and outside of the school building and ensures that the school has an effective medical emergency planAssesses children for a wide range of physical and behavioral illnesses and develops programs to prevent the spread of disease and promote wellnessProvides medically prescribed interventions including medication administration and treatments. Provides first aid/emergency care to students and staffCollaborates with parents community health care providers and agenciesMaintains comprehensive and confidential health records for students which are in compliance with federal state and local regulations. Must remain proficient in current technology for health record database used throughout the systemEnsures timely documentation of all encounters with studentsUses data collection to plan and evaluate the school health programServes as member of pertinent committees and teams supporting the school (Building Leadership Team Crisis Team Health Advisory)Serves as liaison among the school the home community health care agencies and other healthcare professionalsUsing the nursing process collaborates with family and student to develop and implement an individualized health care plan when appropriateApplication Process:Individuals applying for this position need to submit the following: letter of application/cover letter; current resume; three current letters of reference copy of applicable licenses and certifications bachelor/masters unofficial transcripts (official will be required later).
