Data Platforms (DP) is a team of builders creating the foundations that power data and AI across Westpac. Were at an inflection point as we take AI engineering from experimentation to productionsetting the patterns guardrails and platforms that make AI secure reliable and scalable across the bank.
As an AI Engineer in Westpacs GBU Data Platforms team youll design build deploy and run enterprise-grade AI and Generative AI solutions on strategic platforms used across the bankowning outcomes from first commit to production operations.
This role suits hands-on engineers who thrive on shipping. Youll build pipelines APIs and GenAI systems that are secure resilient and observableand youll lead by example: raising engineering standards unblocking delivery and helping others do their best work.
Youll help shape Westpacs growing Enterprise AI capability by influencing technical direction establishing repeatable patterns and building scalable foundations that support critical business functionspartnering closely with product risk and engineering stakeholders.
What youll be doing
- Design build and deploy ML and GenAI solutions that solve real problemstaking accountability for delivery quality and outcomes
- Engineer scalable batch streaming and real-time pipelines and APIs on enterprise data platforms with performance and cost in mind
- Operationalise GenAI systems using modern patterns (prompting RAG agents fine-tuning LLM integration) with strong evaluation safety and monitoring
- Run and support AI in production using MLOps and software engineering best practice (testing CI/CD IaC observability incident response)
- Work with large complex datasets in a highly regulated environment balancing speed with governance and risk
- Partner with data scientists engineers and product teams in Agile delivery squads translating ambiguous problems into shippable increments
- Lift the bar through technical leadership: mentoring code reviews reusable components and pragmatic standards that scale
What you bring to the AI table
- Strong Python and software engineering fundamentals (clean code testing design reviews)
- Proven track record shipping AI/ML to production and owning reliability monitoring and ongoing improvements (not just POCs)
- Hands-on experience with GenAI frameworks and patterns (e.g. LangChain LlamaIndex AutoGen DSPy or similar) including evaluation and RAG quality
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure AWS and/or GCP) and modern delivery tooling (Docker Kubernetes CI/CD)
- Ability to lead without authority in Agile enterprise environmentsinfluencing design decisions aligning stakeholders and driving work to done
- Curious pragmatic and outcome-drivenwith the confidence to challenge constructively unblock others and raise the engineering bar
