Job Summary

3 Month Contract With A Local Authority


Job Purpose

We are seeking a qualified Quantity Surveyor with proven experience in the social housing sector particularly on projects involving significant mechanical and electrical (M&E) works. The successful candidate will support both pre-contract cost planning and post-contract delivery ensuring projects are delivered efficiently within budget and in line with contractual requirements.




Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare cost estimates budgets and feasibility studies for social housing projects.

  • Review and analyse tender documentation specifications and drawings with particular focus on M&E packages.

  • Assist in the procurement of contractors and subcontractors including preparation of tender documentation and evaluation of bids.

  • Provide cost advice and value engineering recommendations to ensure cost-effective delivery.

  • Develop Bills of Quantities (BoQ) and cost plans where required.

  • Liaise with consultants design teams and internal stakeholders during project planning.

  • Manage commercial aspects of projects during delivery including cost control and contract administration.

  • Monitor project budgets variations and change control processes.

  • Evaluate and certify interim payments and final accounts.

  • Manage subcontractor packages including procurement valuations and final account negotiations.

  • Ensure M&E works are commercially managed effectively coordinating with technical teams.

  • Prepare financial reports cost forecasts and progress updates for senior management.

  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities.



Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.

  • Membership of RICS (MRICS) or working towards chartership is desirable.

  • Demonstrable experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within the social housing sector.

  • Experience managing projects with significant mechanical and electrical (M&E) elements.

  • Strong experience in pre-contract cost planning and procurement.

  • Experience in post-contract commercial management and project delivery.

  • Knowledge of JCT / NEC contracts.

  • Strong commercial awareness and cost management skills.

  • Excellent analytical and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong stakeholder communication and reporting abilities.

  • Proficiency in Excel and cost management software.
