Job Summary

5-6 month contract role with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
The Building Surveyor will support Dorset Council in managing and maintaining its property portfolio ensuring assets are safe compliant and maintained to a high standard.
This is a hands-on role involving delivery of planned and reactive maintenance capital projects and asset management across a diverse estate.
The postholder will play a key role in ensuring statutory compliance budget control and effective contractor management within a local authority environment.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
Deliver planned and reactive maintenance (R&M) programmes across a portfolio of council properties.
Ensure compliance with statutory regulations health and safety standards and asset management requirements.
Manage capital works projects (typically 100k) including procurement contract management and delivery.
Oversee contractors and suppliers to ensure quality cost-effectiveness and timely delivery.
Manage budgets and monitor expenditure against allocated funds.
Maintain accurate property records data and performance metrics using digital systems.
Work collaboratively with internal departments and external stakeholders.
Provide professional advice on building condition repairs and lifecycle planning.

Skills/Experience:
Degree in Building Surveying or equivalent qualification.
Proven experience delivering maintenance and capital works programmes.
Strong background in contractor contract and budget management.
Good understanding of property legislation compliance and health & safety requirements.
Experience working within or alongside a local authority (highly desirable).
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Proficient in digital property/asset management systems.
Ability to think strategically and solve complex property-related issues.

Additional Information:
Bi-Weekly Payments.
Location: Dorchester Dorset.
Contract: Temporary (56 months).
Rate: 400500 per day (UMB).
Hours: 37 hours per week.


Required Skills:

Degree in Building Surveying or equivalent qualification. Proven experience delivering maintenance and capital works programmes. Strong background in contractor contract and budget management. Good understanding of property legislation compliance and health & safety requirements. Experience working within or alongside a local authority (highly desirable).
