The Town of New Tecumseth is looking for a Fire Inspectorto for our Station 3 location in Tottenham.

The Fire Inspector provides assistance to the Fire Prevention Officer by conducting inspections coordinating public education programs and providing technical support and training to fire suppression personnel with respect to inspections and investigations.

How you contribute to our organization:

  • Conduct fire and life safety inspections as assigned by the Fire Prevention Officer so that the premises meet the requirements of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act the Ontario Fire Code the Ontario Building Code and any other relevant legislation so that an acceptable degree of fire and life safety is achieved.
  • Schedule coordinate and deliver public education programs so that the incidence of fire injuries and the loss of life and property are reduced.
  • Perform public relations activities utilizing appropriate promotional materials and displays fire safety seminars fire extinguisher training and fire station tours so that fire prevention and fire survival behaviors are promoted and the professional image of the fire service is maintained.
  • Assist the Fire Prevention Officer when requested to examine fire scenes as required by the Fire Protection and Prevention Act using NFPA 921 as a guide and other accepted fire investigation techniques so that an accurate origin and cause determination is completed the effectiveness of occupant behavior is assessed the buildings fire safety resources and protection equipment functioned as designed and that evidence that is collected is acceptable in a court of law. Depending on the nature of the fire investigation other agencies might be involved. A professional working relationship will be developed between the Fire Inspector and other agencies.
  • Evaluate when requested submitted fire safety plans and forward to the Fire Prevention Officer for approval.
  • Conduct pre-plans for buildings as assigned by the Fire Prevention Officer and submits for approval.
  • Provide technical support and training to fire suppression personnel with respect to the Ontario Building Code Ontario Fire Code and Origin Cause and Circumstance Investigations. Perform administrative duties so that reports and statistical data is collected and forwarded to the Fire Prevention Officer.
  • Maintain professional competency so that the inspector remains current with new and existing legislation codes standards and pursues any professional certification pertaining to this role.
  • Coordinate the door-to-door smoke alarm campaign and the maintenance of their respective station smoke alarm kit ensures staff utilize the iPad smoke alarm data collection program when appropriate and forwards documentation to the Fire Prevention Officer.

What you bring to the team:

  • NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Awareness
  • NFPA 1001 & 1002 Certified Firefighter or legacied
  • NFPA 1035 Fire and Life Safety Educator I is preferred
  • NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector I is preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience in the fire service. Inspection and/or public education experience preferred.
  • Previous construction experience and knowledge of the Ontario Building Code.
  • Ability to react quickly and remain calm in extremely stressful situations.
  • Considerable attention to detail required with frequent interruptions and conflicting demands.
  • Ability to interact with the public in a professional respectful manner to ensure fire and life safety messaging is disseminated and understood by the residents of New Tecumseth.



Pay Rate: $27.66 per hour
Hours: Paid-On-Call
Location: Station 3 Tottenham
Start Date: April 13th 2026
