Provider of Dyslexia Instruction
Employment Term (days): 187
Pay Scale: Teacher
Primary Purpose:
Provide students who are identified with a Specific Learning Disability in Dyslexia with specially designed instruction which includes these critical evidence-based components: phonological awareness soundsymbol association syllabication orthography morphology syntax reading comprehension and reading fluency TAC 38.003(b). Deliver instruction with fidelity in a multisensory manner that simultaneously uses all learning pathways to the brain is systematic and cumulative is explicitly taught uses diagnostic teaching to automaticity and includes both analytic and synthetic approaches. Qualification Guidelines:
Education/Certifications:
Bachelors degree
Valid Texas Teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
Documented dyslexia training aligned to 19 TAC 74.28(d)examples include: TEA Learn Dyslexia Modules Region 3 Texas Dyslexia Academy
Special Education certification (preferred)
Irlen Screener certification (preferred)
Texas Reading Academy certification (required within one year upon being hired)
Letter of Acceptance from Educator Prep Program and ability to obtain Intern Certification within one year for subject and level assigned
Experience:
Two years experience teaching reading (preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Proven ability to work with students parents peers and superiors
Understanding of the characteristics of dyslexia the reading process and components of dyslexia instruction
General knowledge of Orton-Gillingham multisensory philosophy and principles
Ability to capitalize on students interests so as to encourage students to become independent learners while also making learning meaningful and relevant
Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of reading assessments (particularly for diagnostic purposes)
Ability to work with students parents peers and superiors especially during stressful periods of time
Able to communicate effectively and professionally at all times
May be required to control student behavior through the use of physical restraint
