The Clinical Veterinarian provides and oversees preventive and supportive veterinary care for laboratory animals at Massachusetts General Hospital in concert with other professional staff in CCM. This person also provides professional expertise in a collaborative research manner to investigators at MGH and elsewhere for animal model development and proper care and use of animal subjects. The position involves daily exposure to laboratory animals and their waste products.
The Following Duties are required:
1) Provide service to and train research staff on various components of proper animal use preparation of animals for surgery anesthesia surgical technique post-operative monitoring injections and sample collection.
2) Advises staff on preventive health programs such as quarantine evaluation of new arrivals sentinel surveillance of rodent colonies annual physical examinations and semi-annual tuberculin testing of non-human primates.
3) Perform routine clinical rounds in vivarium throughout MGH as well as site visits to animal vendors and extramural satellite facilities where MGH animals are maintained.
4) Provide weekend/holiday/after-hours coverage for veterinary emergencies in concert with other professional staff in CCM.
5) Participate in establishing implementing and monitoring policies and procedures involving laboratory animal care and use that is in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations and current accreditation standards. Comply with and follow CCM and MGH policies and procedures.
6) Other duties as assigned.

-Responsible for overseeing the process of clinical diagnostic data collection.
-Conduct comprehensive reviews of medical records to assess the quality and completeness of clinical documentation.
-May participate in the response to internal/external inspections and quality assurance audits of veterinary or animal welfare-type content.
-Analyzes medical information to assist healthcare staff in providing superior services for patients.
-Provides anesthesia and surgical support as well as postoperative care for clinical and research procedures.
-Provide clinical care for the animal colony.
-Collaborates with data management in the planning and implementation of data quality assurance plans.
-Write review and update veterinary care and/or necropsy SOPs as required.
-Ensures integrity of patient data.

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine required
