University of Miami Pre-College Division of Continuing and International Education

What is Pre-College University of Miami Pre-College offers both credit and non-credit summer programs for high school students seeking to gain college experience before graduating from high school. Upon completion participants feel better prepared for the undergraduate admission process and gain confidence in their academic choices and ability to succeed in college.

Pre-College programs include the Summer Scholars three-week credit program and UM Academies two-week non-credit program for high school students (rising sophomores juniors and rising seniors). Combined the programs host approximately 700 students of which 500 are residential.

With health safety and wellbeing as our priority we strive to provide an inclusive authentic campus experience for our Pre-College students filled with stimulating academics engaging programming and unique weekend excursions.

Housing Manager University of Miami Pre-College (8 positions)

Pre-College Housing Manager will join the University of Miami Pre-College team which is responsible for administering the Summer Scholars three-week credit program and UM Academies two-week non-credit program.

As an integral member of the senior Pre-College leadership team Housing Manager ACUHO-I interns will report to the Director and assist in the day-to-day management and administration of the residential program while maintaining a regular on-campus presence during the summer program.

  • 5 intern positions open for the Summer Scholars Program: June 15 to July 17 (5 weeks)
  • 3 intern positions open for the UM Academies: June 15 to July 17 (5 weeks)

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Leadership & Management

  • Work as a member of the University of Miami Pre-College team; foster the conditions for a strong campus community.
  • Supervise and mentor Pre-College Leaders (PCLs) ensuring accountability professionalism and effective support to students.
  • Conduct daily check-ins with PCLs and facilitate staff meetings.
  • Participate in student move-in and move-out; oversee community-building and orientation activities.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for a diverse student body.
  • Assists with room changes late check-in and early check-out communicates and follows up on facilities issues and submits applicable reports in a timely manner.
  • Participate in on-call responsibilities to respond to emergencies and other situations during and after normal business hours.
  • Manage sign-in/sign-out procedures for all residential students.
  • Respond to and document maintenance issues collaborating with facilities when needed.
  • Conduct nightly rounds and ensure compliance with program curfews and quiet hours.

Student Conduct

  • Clearly communicate and apply all Summer Conference Housing policies to the residential staff and students.
  • Be knowledgeable on and enforce University of Miami Pre-College and UM Student code of conduct. Document all incidents in a responsible and timely manner providing the appropriate written (Incident Reports) and verbal behavioral data relevant to administering guidance and discipline in response to these incidents.
  • Assist with the residential disciplinary conduct adjudication process including but not limited to ensuring due process meeting with students assigning level appropriate informal resolutions student follow-ups policy violation documentation and tracking of such by maintaining accurate student conduct records.
  • Respond quickly to emergencies and crisis situations including managing instances involving various health/medical behavioral or other safety-related circumstances.
  • Manage student emergency contact information; transport students to/from health facilities as needed (non-emergencies).

Student Life Programming

  • Lead and monitor evening and weekend student residence life programs activities and events; Chaperone field trips as needed; and supervise inventory in storage room.
  • Coordinate transportation dining hall pick-ups and snack distribution for academic and programmatic field trips.
  • Serve as a point of contact during field trips to ensure safety and engagement.
  • Be knowledgeable of campus resources and provide information when needed.

Additional Information

  • Possess a valid drivers license; drive a university vehicle.
  • Night and weekend work required.
  • Interns may not take any summer classes during the position dates or be committed to any other jobs volunteer work research opportunities or work-related commitments during the role.
  • Reports to the Director; collaboration with Pre-College office staff.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Masters or Doctoral program in Higher Education Student Affairs Counseling or a related field.
  • Previous experience in residence life housing operations youth supervision or student supervision preferred.
  • Strong leadership organizational and crisis management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently manage multiple priorities and maintain confidentiality.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive supportive and engaging residential environment for high school students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising or mentoring student staff.
  • Familiarity with FERPA Title IX and Clery Act compliance.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain prior to program start.

Compensation:

Internships will be in-person. The Housing Manager intern will reside in on-campus housing on a Pre-College floor among staff and Pre-College students. Interns are provided with a single room in a UM residence hall a meal plan and access to the fitness center.

Inters will be paid monthly on the last day of each month for the assignment.

Interns must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

5-week assignment:

o 8 intern positions open for the Summer Scholars Program o June 15 to July 17 2026

o Interns will be paid a $5500 stipend for the assignment.

Arrival flights must arrive on June 14 and return flights must be on the last day of the position July 17 after 2pm.

There will be no housing accommodations provided before or after these dates.
