JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Join the leadership team of Fort McMurray Public Schools a growing school division serving more than 8000 students in 16 schools. Guided by the Divisions vision mission motto belief statements and strategic priorities the Director of Teaching and Learning assists the Superintendent in fulfilling the responsibilities outlined in the Education Act and Board Administrative Procedures. The successful candidate will practice leadership in a manner that reflects high levels of personal professional and organizational integrity while earning the confidence of staff students families and community partners.

The Director of Teaching and Learning provides system leadership to ensure high levels of student achievement and the effective implementation of curriculum and assessment practices across the Division. This role fosters conditions that promote improved outcomes for all learners supports inclusive and responsive programming including for First Nations Métis and Inuit students and ensures students learn in welcoming caring respectful and safe environments that foster a strong sense of belonging.

Reporting directly to the Superintendent the Director supervises and supports Teaching and Learning department staff and assists with the recruitment and supervision of professional and school-based administrative staff as requested. The position requires strong instructional leadership the ability to build leadership capacity across schools and a commitment to continuous improvement and evidence-informed practice.

The Director develops and manages the departmental budget within Division parameters and ensures fiscally responsible and effective use of resources. The role provides leadership in the development and implementation of Board policy and Administrative Procedures within areas of responsibility ensures compliance with legal and Ministerial requirements and contributes to a collaborative Division culture that responds effectively to challenges and emergent situations.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential. The Director maintains open and transparent communication with internal and external stakeholders fosters partnerships with community agencies responds to concerns in a thoughtful and timely manner and supports the Superintendent in carrying out the Boards governance responsibilities.

REQUIREMENTS:

Masters Degree in Education or related field. Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate. Leadership Quality Standard Certification. Demonstrated school-based and or system-level leadership experience. Strong knowledge of curriculum provincial legislation Board policy and effective instructional practice.
