Varsity Head Boys Basketball Coach

Bishop Ireton High School seeks candidates for the position of Varsity Head Boys Basketball Coach starting the 2026-2027 season. The successful candidate will have a history of fielding highly competitive basketball teams that have fulfilled the overall mission of the school has a proven record of attracting current and new students to a high school basketball program and possesses excellent leadership skills and a strong faith.

Bishop Ireton is a Catholic co-educational college preparatory high school in historic Alexandria Virginia. It began its proud heritage of academic excellence and rich 61-year athletic history in 1964. Responsibilities:

• Communicate an inspiring vision for how the Bishop Ireton basketball program will perform at the highest competitive level in the WCAC and deliver the values of the school and the Athletics Department to all players.
• Hire develop and manage coaches at all levels that will effectively execute the vision and strategic goals of the program.
• Develop a comprehensive basketball program including off-season workouts and strength and conditioning component.
• Create and execute practice plans; evaluate players strategies and staff to maximize the programs success.
• Educate and inspire each player to be the best basketball player he can be equipped with the skills strategies and habits necessary to find success.
• Provide strong communications with families staff and student-athletes.
• Collaborate with other Bishop Ireton coaches as well as with engaged staff including attendance at Athletics Department coach meetings.
• Collaborate with the Admissions Office to recruit and enroll mission-appropriate student-athletes including Open House attendance.
• Actively support our players who wish to play at the collegiate level by providing our players and parents with guidance regarding the recruiting process engaging with college coaches to advocate for our players and supporting the work of the College Counseling Department.
• Deepen ties with the local AAU and parish basketball communities to strengthen the Bishop Ireton basketball brand and cultivate communications with prospective students. This includes collaborative management of the Bishop Ireton summer camp basketball clinics.
• Work closely with the Athletic Trainers to ensure the health and safety of every basketball player at Bishop Ireton and model commitment to player health in every setting.
• Be a visible part of the school community representing Bishop Ireton both on and off campus in alignment with the mission of the school.
• Recognize and support academics faith and character development for all players.
• Abide by and adhere to the policies and standards of the WCAC the Arlington Diocese and the school.

Qualifications:

• A bachelors degree
• Head coaching experience preferred with five years or more coaching experience expected
• A successful candidate should be ready to demonstrate a commitment to Catholic education the highest standards of professionalism the ability to work effectively with different constituencies and a capacity to create a mission-centered culture which includes faith character purposeful development selflessness and excellence

The Varsity Head Coach receives a seasonal stipend and reports to the Athletic Director.
