Job Summary

Position Summary:

Under the summer camp directors direct supervision the summer camp counselor supervises children enrolled in the YMCAs Summer Camp Program and will guide daily camper activities while enforcing camp rules and policies. Expected Camp dates are late May until mid-August and is a seasonal position where the employee will voluntarily separate at the conclusion of the season.

Essential Functions:

1. Provide guidance for campers in daily activities

2. Maintain a high level of professionalism while performing each task as a Summer Camp Counselor

3. Demonstrate the skill and competency necessary to contribute to each childs physical intellectual personal emotional and social development

4. Provide high-quality educational and recreational experiences for participants that focus on the YMCAs core values of caring honesty respect and responsibility.

5. Follow and enforce camp rules with the ability to respond appropriately to accidents incidents and emergencies.

6. Availability to work a 6-7 hr daily shift which will either start at 6 am or finish at 6 pm Monday-Friday 25-40 hours per week.

7. Ability to work 40 out of the 50 camp days

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or GED
  2. Ability to work well with a diverse group of children parents co-workers and adults.
  3. Experience working with children ages 5 to 13 years old
  4. CPR/First Aid certification or obtain within 30 days of hire.
  5. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of the community social and economic segments of the community.

Work will be performed indoors and outdoors and may require occasional travel

Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to respond swiftly in an emergency situation.

Sufficient strength agility and mobility to perform position functions and to supervise program activities.

Must be able to coordinate a variety of large and small tasks simultaneously

Must be able to handle stress and tension in a positive manner

Salary Description
$16.50/hour
