As a Senior Naval Architect you will play a crucial role in delivering world-class yachts by performing key Naval Architecture calculations guiding design decisions and contributing expert insights throughout the entire project lifecycle. You ensure that every vessel meets the highest standards of safety performance and innovation.
You will be part of a multidisciplinary engineering team and report hierarchically to the Technical Manager Shipbuilding and functionally to the Project Manager Engineering.
Your Purpose
You perform essential naval architecture calculations to support yacht design and provide solutions and technical expertise to ongoing projects. You take responsibility for the quality of your work and proactively propose improvements whenever design results call for adjustments.
Your Responsibilities
In this role you will:
Prepare check and maintain weight calculations stability calculations and all related documentation.
. Acts as a technical sparring partner within the Engineering team and supports less experienced Naval Architects
Draft and review calculations for key design aspects including:
o Propulsion
o Water intergrity plans
o Speed and range
o Tank arrangements and capacities
o Noise requirements
o Regulatory and classification compliance
o Other shipbuilding calculations essential to yacht construction
Documentation & Compliance
Prepare both preliminary and final stability booklets and guide them through approval.
Perform and support inclining tests including documentation execution and official approval.
Liaise with classification societies inspection authorities and regulatory bodies and follow up on resulting actions.
Sea Trials & Project Support
Prepare relevant Sea Acceptance Test (SAT) protocols.
Participate in sea trials verifying performance and vessel characteristics.
Report findings clearly accurately and professionally.
Collaborate closely with other naval architects project engineers and multidisciplinary team members on progress challenges and solutions.
Continuous Improvement
Contribute to the standardisation and development of improved engineering practices.
Take the initiative to identify optimisations in methodology processes or documentation.
Your Profile
Education & Experience
Bachelors or Masters degree in Naval Architecture (Shipbuilding).
At least 5 years of experience in yacht building or related shipbuilding sectors.
Technical Skills
Strong command of MS Office and relevant naval architecture software tools (Max Surf).
Ability to make independent technical decisions within your field aligned with project planning and in consultation with the Project Manager Engineering.
Professional Attributes
Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail.
Proactive attitude towards improving design outcomes.
Comfortable communicating with authorities engineers and project teams.
Fluent in Dutch and English both written and verbal.
