Job Description: St. Thomas More Cathedral School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Library Teacher to join our team for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering an educational environment where every child can excel academically grow spiritually and develop socially while also being an active participant in our school community. The Librarian fulfills the Mission of St. Thomas More Cathedral School by planning guiding and evaluating the effectiveness of the school library and media center.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instruction: Teach elementary-level students according to the curriculum standards in the Diocese of Arlington integrating faith and Christian morals into instruction.
- Faith Formation: Incorporate Catholic teachings into daily lessons and classroom activities guiding students in prayer and developing their relationship with Christ. Acts as a witness to the Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Classroom Management: Create a positive inclusive and respectful classroom environment maintaining discipline and fostering a love for learning.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other teachers staff and school leadership to implement school-wide initiatives and support students academic and spiritual development. Provide library services and materials to meet the needs of teachers and students.
- Parental Involvement: Maintain open communication with parents regarding student progress concerns and achievements fostering a strong partnership between home and school.
- Professional Growth: Participate in ongoing professional development staying current with educational trends best practices and Catholic education principles.
- Administration: Select and order books periodicals vertical file material picture collections appropriate computer programs and materials for professional collection with approval of the principal.
Qualifications: Masters degree in Library Science (MLS) or a related field. Virginia certification as a school librarian or a willingness to pursue certification. Strong commitment to Catholic education and the mission of St. Thomas More. Experience working with elementary-aged children preferably in a Catholic school setting. Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
