Description of Work

Responsible for administering eligibility tests evaluating persons applying for classified Driver License Commercial Driver License Learners permits and ID cards. Dealing with high volume of transactions you will use your first-class customer service skills to confirm applicants knowledge of NC Motor Vehicle laws identification of road signs checking vision and observing/evaluating driving skills by riding with the customer in their personal vehicle on a road test in all types of weather. You will serve as a public advisor to identify any possible health concerns with drivers advise customers of adjunct service programs available and ensure applicant data and court ordered information is entered accurately into internal system for reporting.



You are the face of DMV and serve an important role to reduce wait times and improve customer service. Ensuring we meet our mission in providing for customers in other offices flexibility to travel during the day and overnight on short notice may be required.



Individuals in this position are required to wear an agency issued uniform and shoes. Travel may be required during the day as well as occasional overnight stays on short notice to provide relief for other offices. Employees in this position must hold a valid Class C North Carolina Driver License with no more than 5 active points and no suspensions/revocations within the last 10 years.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

80% Evaluation of ApplicantsThe Examiner performs a full range of Examiner duties including the testing and evaluation of applicants for classified licenses and Commercial Driver License Learners Permits and ID cards This position confirms applicants knowledge of NC Motor Vehicle laws identification of road signs and vision screening. This position must be familiar with the required documents for issuance of a driver license or ID card and be able to identify fraudulent documents The Examiner must evaluate driving skills by riding with the customer in their personal vehicle on a road test in all types of weather. The Examiner must conduct CDL skills testing which includes a pre-trip inspection basic control skills and a road test in accordance with NCDMV policy/procedure and federal re Illations. Scoring of CDL skills testing must be entered into CSTIMS for all position is responsible for maintaining satisfactory customer service levels and office efficiencies and troubleshooting problem situations including consultation with Senior Examiner for instructions as to whether or not to reject or deny the issuance of a driver licenses or I.D. cards due to questionable or insufficient documentation or the possible inability of an applicant to operate a motor vehicle. The Examiner must identify possible health/physical problems and refer customers to the Medical Review unit when appropriate. The Examiner must conduct medical reexams and evaluations for applicants referred by the NCDMV Medical Review unit.20% Data ManagementThe Examiner enters data in the SADLS system and must ensure this done with accuracy. Retrieve data from SADLS and other mainframe or web- based data bases. The Examiner must protect the PCI data of the customers. This position must be able to use sound judgement to determine eligibility based on data received from nationwide sources such as CDLIS PDPS and S2S. This position must ensure that collecting and balancing receipts and completing and entering daily reports are done accurately.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelors degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
