A large national healthcare laboratory services provider is seeking a Microbiology Manager to oversee microbiology laboratory operations.
The organization supports a nationwide network of hospital laboratories outpatient facilities and healthcare providers delivering high-quality clinical laboratory and pathology services. These laboratories provide diagnostic testing for acute care hospitals physician practices surgery centers and other healthcare organizations.
The Microbiology Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the microbiology laboratory ensuring accurate diagnostic testing regulatory compliance and efficient laboratory workflow.
This role supervises laboratory personnel manages quality programs and collaborates with leadership to maintain operational excellence and high standards of patient care.
Supervise daily microbiology laboratory operations and staff activities.
Manage both technical and non-technical laboratory personnel.
Oversee hiring onboarding training and competency assessments for laboratory staff.
Provide performance feedback coaching and professional development support.
Monitor employee performance and ensure professional workplace conduct.
Support departmental goals related to:
Service quality
Regulatory compliance
Financial performance
Patient and employee satisfaction
Collaborate with the Medical Director to develop departmental policies and performance metrics.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards including:
CAP
JCAHO
CLIA
FDA
CMS
Lead department accreditation preparation and audits.
Oversee quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) programs for laboratory testing methods equipment and supplies.
Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives.
Develop communication strategies to ensure staff remain informed and aligned with departmental goals.
Bachelors Degree in one of the following fields:
Medical Technology
Biomedical Science
Biology
Chemistry
Preferred:
Masters Degree in a related field
National Certification as a Medical Technologist (Required)
Minimum 3 years of recent experience as a Microbiology Technologist
Experience working in a high-volume hospital or central laboratory setting
Strong background as a Medical Technologist
Candidates should demonstrate stable employment history with minimal gaps.
Local Tennessee candidates preferred though relocation candidates will be considered.
