The Reynoldsburg City Schools Athletic Coach is responsible for the leadership instruction and supervision of student-athletes within their assigned sports program. This role involves teaching fundamental skills strategies and physical training while fostering an environment that promotes sportsmanship academic excellence and the physical and mental well-being of all participants in alignment with Ohio Department of Education (ODE) and Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
- The following credentials must be active and approved prior to the start of any coaching activities:
- Pupil Activity Permit (PAP): A valid permit must be verified through the Ohio Department of Education (which encompasses completion of Fundamentals of Coaching Concussion Training Lindsays Law and CPR/First Aid).
- Background Check: A current BCI/FBI check must be on file with the district.
- HCM Documentation: All digital onboarding forms must be completed and submitted.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous coaching experience at the interscholastic collegiate or youth level.
- Proven ability to motivate student-athletes and maintain positive community relations.
- Knowledge of district-specific athletic policies and OHSAA regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Primary functions may include the following duties responsibilities skills abilities and other characteristics. Instructional and Athletic Development Responsibilities
- Instruct coach and support student-athletes in fundamental skills strategy and physical training for both individual and team success.
- Execute practice plans and game-day strategies as directed (Head Coach) or as assigned (Assistant Coach).
- Lead and coach in a manner that embodies and enhances ethical and moral values pride of accomplishment good sportsmanship self-discipline and teamwork.
- Provide consistent feedback to student-athletes regarding performance technique and personal growth.
Administrative and Compliance Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance with Ohio School Law RCS Board Policies and OHSAA bylaws regarding eligibility recruitment and safety.
- Maintain accurate records as required including physical exams emergency medical forms and equipment inventories.
- Support the management of athletic facilities and equipment to ensure a safe environment for all participants.
- Supervise student-athletes at all times including in locker rooms on buses and during all team-sanctioned events.
Communication and Mentorship Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students parents Athletic Director administration and all stakeholders.
- Promote the program through positive interactions and support of district-wide athletic initiatives.
- Model the Portrait of an Educator by serving as a mentor and champion for student growth academic achievement and character development.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Technical aspects rules and strategies of the specific sport.
- OHSAA rules and regulations and Ohio School Law.
- Adolescent development and positive behavioral reinforcement.
- Emergency safety protocols and injury prevention.
Skilled in:
- Effective communication and interpersonal relations.
- Organization and time management during practices and events.
- Conflict resolution and situational problem-solving.
Ability to:
- Demonstrate and explain athletic techniques clearly to students of varying skill levels.
- Manage groups of students effectively in various environments.
- Maintain composure and professional conduct under high-pressure competitive environments.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions in keeping with law.
Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to communicate with others. The employee is required to sit or stand and move around for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to push pull lift and carry over 25 pounds on occasion.
Working Conditions The employee in this position may experience occasional exposure to blood bodily fluids and tissue. The employee may also be required to interact with unruly children.
Driving Requirement This position may require driving to various school sites or events.
