Job Description
Our client a long-established and continually growing construction-based company is seeking an experienced Controllerto oversee full-cycle accounting and financial management.This is apermanenthands-on leadership role is based inBedford NS and isideal for someone with strong industry experience who thrives in a fast-paced project-based environment. Reporting directly to the Owners the successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining financial integrity supporting growth and ensuring compliance.
Key Responsibilities for the Job:
- Oversee full-cycle accounting and financial management
- Manage invoicing processes with a strong focus on government contracts
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to meet bonding requirements
- Partner closely with project managers on project-based financial tracking and cost control
- Supervise and support two in-house bookkeepers (bank/credit card reconciliations invoicing general bookkeeping)
- Coordinate with external auditors and accountants
- Maintain and optimize accounting processes
- Strengthen internal controls and financial reporting procedures
Experience & Attributes for Success:
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience with strong exposure to the construction industry
- Direct experience with government contracts and related reporting requirements
- Strong understanding of job costing and project-based accounting
- Proficiency in QuickBooks
- Familiarity with local geography and regional project locations
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with ownership and project teams
- Strong leadership skills with a commitment to fostering an engaging and driven environment
- Comfortable in a growth-oriented deadline-driven environment
