Director of Special Education Anticipated for FY27

*Salary placement within the above range will be determined based on licensure and relevant ToPrincipal & SuperintendentPosition OverviewThe Special Education Director is responsible for the leadership administration and supervision of special education programs and services in a regional vocational technical high school. This role ensures compliance with Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) regulations and federal IDEA requirements while supporting inclusive access to rigorous academic and career technical education programs for students with disabilities. The Director collaborates with administrators faculty families community agencies and partner districts to ensure high-quality services that promote student achievement postsecondary readiness and workforce success. The Special Education Director serves as an integral part of the leadership team participating in broad administrative duties such as the development of the School Improvement Plan and Student Handbook policies as well as participating in the day to day supervision of student activities. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProgram Leadership & Administration* Ensure district provision of special education services in accordance with FAPE IDEA FERPA* Possess a deep knowledge of special education law and a strong ability to communicate this to faculty families and sending districts* Provide leadership in the planning implementation and evaluation of special education programs for grades 912 in a vocational-technical setting.* Ensure compliance with IDEA Massachusetts Special Education Regulations (603 CMR 28.00) and all DESE reporting requirements.* Develop implement and monitor policies and procedures related to special education services.* Oversee IEP development and implementation ensuring alignment with academic and vocational standards.* Provide consultation to administration and faculty on developing age and setting age appropriate accommodations which maximize student growth* Coordinate special education services within academic classrooms vocational shops cooperative education placements and work-based learning environments.* Ensure department conforms to timelines consent procedures and parent/student rights* Collaborate with external providers as needed for extended evaluations and testing* Conduct systemic analyses of current structure of special education department staffing co-teaching and professional development to ensure high quality services* Assess and make programmatic recommendations to address implementation of IEPs across academic and vocational settings utilizing data informed decision making* Provide leadership in complaint resolutionStudent Services & IEP Oversight* Supervise the IEP process including evaluations eligibility determinations annual reviews and transition planning.* Ensure meaningful inclusion of students with disabilities in vocational programs while maintaining safety and skill standards.* Provide leadership on transition planning beginning at age 14 including postsecondary education employment independent living and adult service connections including referrals to Work Opportunities Unlimited and 688 referrals* Maintain high standards for progress monitoring towards IEP goals and ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications are provided.* Respond to student discipline matters related to students with disabilities including facilitating manifestation determination meetings and coordinating functional behavior assessments as Supervision & Professional Development* Supervise and evaluate special education teachers paraprofessionals related service providers (SLP School Psychologist OT) and support staff.* Provide ongoing professional development related to special education law inclusive practices vocational accommodations and differentiated instruction.* Support collaboration between special education staff academic teachers and vocational instructors.* Assist with recruitment hiring and mentoring of special education & Career Technical Integration* Collaborate with vocational administrators and instructors to ensure accessibility and compliance within shop programs.* Support accommodations and modifications for vocational equipment safety requirements and industry standards.* Coordinate services for students participating in cooperative education internships and off-campus placements.* Ensure vocational assessments and career planning are incorporated into transition & Community Collaboration* Serve as a primary liaison with families regarding special education programs and services.* Facilitate clear culturally responsive communication with parents/guardians.* Coordinate with sending districts community agencies adult service providers and postsecondary institutions.* Participate in TEAM meetings parent conferences and mediation or dispute resolution as Data & Budget Management* Oversee special education budgets grants and tuitioned-placements as applicable.* Maintain accurate student records and ensure timely DESE reporting (SIMS SCS IEP timelines).* Analyze data to improve program effectiveness and student outcomes.* Prepare for and participate in Integrated Monitoring OLA Review and other audits.
