The Advisor in Upward Bound collaborates with colleagues to provide various opportunities for participants to build academic proficiency and social/cultural competency. This role assists in planning organizing and facilitating program activities and events and with the recruitment and retention of program participants.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Student Advising & Program Support
- Oversees the after-school Upward Bound tutoring program. Provides
academic advising for a caseload of participants throughout the academic year. - Assists in developing designing and leading program components that result
in positive academic outcomes for Upward Bound participants. Provides
engaging ongoing opportunities for Upward Bound participants to experience
success through academic activities. Develops and maintains a safe supportive learning environment to achieve positive results. Builds strong positive
relationships with Upward Bound participants. - Facilitates Saturday and Senior Session workshops. Provides time and group
management while offering homework and tutoring assistance. Creates and
maintains discussions for program and participant improvement. - Provides mentoring and transitional support to graduating seniors and first-year college students participating in the BRIDGE program. Identifies and recruits new
participants in accordance with USDOE requirements.
Customer Service
- Reports to the site on time and prepared as directed. Assists with the needs of the Upward Bound Summer Enrichment Institute for 9th through 11th-grade students.
- Models professional behavior with participants parents and staff.
Handles disruptive behavior with respect following guidelines processes and
procedures; and reports any issues to the Upward Bound Manager and/or
TRIO Director.
Administrative
- Assists with snack/bus pass distribution chaperoning during off-campus
activities and participant sign-out and clean-up of bus and classroom
environments. Assists with the off-campus and weekend activities and other
events as needed.
Culture of Respect
- Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty staff students and members of the community.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in a related field
- Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in student advising
- State Motor Vehicle Operators License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
*An appropriate combination of education training coursework and experience may qualify a candidate.
