Job Summary

What We Can Achieve Together:

The Associate Director of Philanthropy (ADOP) is responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of 60-120 qualified donors with the capacity to give over $100000 or more. These new and long-time donors will be identified through an existing list of prospects. The ADOP will build strong relationships between donors and TNC and act as the primary relationship manager for their engagement with TNC. They will understand and apply complex principles of developing donor strategies for each individual while honoring the donors interests and helping to meet the organizations funding needs both globally and locally. They will be responsible for requesting gifts directly from individuals in portfolio to achieve individual fundraising goals and contributing to budget this role the ADOP will discuss sensitive financial information with donors listen for opportunities for gifts of assets or other noncash gifts and conduct planned giving conversations.

The ADOP provides outstanding stewardship to donors to deepen engagement after their gift and identify opportunities to increase future giving. They will seek support from and engage appropriate partners in the field and collaborate with colleagues across the organization. They will also use TNCs donor database make annual giving projections for each donor in management understand budgets and develop proposals.

The ADOP reports to the Director of Philanthropy and works closely with the State Director the Board of Trustees the philanthropy team and program leads to plan implement and coordinate effective annual and multiyear strategies to generate support for the critical conservation priorities of TNC. Support will come from individuals and may also include private foundations and corporations. This position will be primarily based in St. Louis with occasional travel to Kansas City Columbia Springfield and remote locations throughout Missouri.

The ADOP position will require some flexible hours with work-life balance prioritized. The work environment may involve infrequent exposure to disagreeable outdoor elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain. What Youll Bring:

  • Bachelors degree and 5 years related experience or an equivalent combination.

  • Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with donors volunteers and staff.

  • Experience in asking for and closing gifts of $25000 or more.

  • Experience designing and managing fundraising strategies including individualized cultivation solicitation and stewardship plans.

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.

  • Experience coursework or other training in fundraising principles and practices.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.

  • Ability to determine an individuals interests capacity and potential for helping TNC meet its goals and act appropriately to tie those interests with TNCs work.

  • Ability to educate and inform prospective and existing donors about appropriate giving vehicles.

  • Knowledge of campaigns and planned giving highly valued.

  • Demonstrated experience using listening diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships and motivate donors and volunteers.

  • Proven ability to negotiate high profile or sensitive agreements.

Salary Information:

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of$77000 - $85000. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidates actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors including for example the candidates location qualifications specific skills and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
