Chevrons Shale & Tight Business is accepting online applications for the position of Field Specialist Apprentice located in Carlsbad NM or Hobbs NM through March 31 2026at 11:59 PM (Central Standard Time).

The Field Specialist Apprenticeship is designed to build technical skills in the production operations discipline and gain hands-on experience in field operations. As part of the program apprentices will work with a range of equipment and systems such as production facilities production wells water disposal and compressors artificial lift systems (gas lift ESP rod pump and plunger) VRUs pumps and more providing valuable exposure to real-world applications in the industry.

Through a combination of structured training and immersive on-the-job learning Apprentices are introduced to operating troubleshooting repairing and maintaining oil and gas production in partnership with Field Operations Integrated Operations Center and Maintenance and Reliability team members. The position provides direct exposure to the Chevron Way Values and the strong safety culture that defines the Shale & Tight Business Unit.

Apprentices will work closely with a dedicated mentor complete two assignments across different operational areas to develop a broad understanding of how teams and functions work together to safely deliver production and minimize downtime and will also participate in computer-based and classroom training.

This is a temporary 6month field-based position

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Must have a valid Drivers License

  • Ability and willingness to work day and night shift work weekends and holidays based on the assigned work schedule.

  • Live within 50 miles of the work location

  • This is a Safety Sensitive Position. Candidates must demonstrate personal commitment to Incident and Injury Free Operations with a proven record in Safety and Reliability.

  • Applicants must meet at least one of the following: complete an Applied Associates of Science degree (such as Lease Operator Petroleum Process Technology Natural Gas Compression or related field) OR have equivalent education or military training OR finish a certificate program (such as Lease Operator Petroleum Process Technology Natural Gas Compression or related field) with previous oil & gas or similar industry experience. Additionally a minimum GPA of 2.5 in core classes is required and transcripts must be uploaded to the applicants online profile


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with reliability safety and/or environmental process-related issues.

  • Previous experience with pneumatic/electronic instrumentation

  • Basic knowledge in MS Office (Word Excel Outlook etc.) and an aptitude for learning new software applications.

  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a diverse team of coworkers contractors and internal and external customers.
